Nothing sounds as sweet as the jakes on a 60 series with 10 inch straights. That sound is addictive.

Let me start off by saying I respect your concern but let me get this right you purchased your house by the highway because it was cheaper for being so close and now you have it you want to gripe about a trucker doing his job its kinda like me telling you not to wear your hard hat or safty glasses on a job as for truckers being considerate you have clothes on your back food in your house and a roof over your head guess what a truck was considerate enough to deliver these products so you can have them. I know that when you heard a big truck with his jake on just remember he is saving a life by saving his breaks whats next you going to complain about the soldiers defending freedom and training for war. If you have it a trucker moved it

Addictive, yes, to the interested ear but them unmuffled exhausts is why all the anti-jake signs keep going up everywhere.

Those fancy noisemakers aren't as 'addictive' at 0dark30 when you're trying to get some sleep. Unmuffled vehicles of any type are unnecessary and should be put out of service till a stock muffler is installed. If you need the noise, run the stock exhaust into your cab.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, folks. I just can't understand why anyone would need to be heard five miles away, bike, truck, car, whatever. And that's what straight pipes are; not safety, not 'saving my brakes'... it's all 'lookitmee'.

If we as a group keep abusing our engine retarders, we'll not be able to use them when and where we need them. Then you can kiss 'safety' goodbye.

i agree with the unecessary noise if your running straight pipes. I live on a main highway and its alot of hills and it does get irritating when i can hear trucks literally 20 kms away goin DOWN the BACK side of the mtn. I do however agree with safety in the fact that i almost pulled out in front of a t/t one night on my way to a fire call and if it wasnt for his jakes i wouldnt be here right now. If that makes any sense.

I wonder if the OP, (Ivanhoe), envisioned that the subject he brought up would keep generating responses for almost five years afterward, so far (and still countin')?
With 546 replies (includin' this post) the question still remains, ----
    Jake on,
    :smt102 ........ or Jake off. :smt102

I hope runnin' the Jake doesn't affect eyesight as much as
readin' 'bout 'em seems to. :glasses7::read2::smt112:happy8:

You did remember to switch the drive tires to the studded snow tires before beginnin' the figure 8's, ....... right?

If his last name was Lawn, would you do a Figure 8 on his
    Hood?
