I agree with your final sentence.
I strive for excellence and safety. I've been working my whole life to never raise a stink, unless it is for a good cause. It's against my principles to drive with these tires, but I haven't found a way to untie my hands, besides to get it in writing and suffer through my first year or two until I can find someone to work for that takes safety as seriously as I do.
I'm all for saving money, but this is a huge exception. This is a case where putting on new tires, though they would be recaps, would be the smarter choice. Save my tires as spares, because that's all they're good for.
I'm not a vindictive person, but a part of me wants to get hurt, due to those tires. Call me crazy.
I'm either going to walk away from this job, or find a way to break myself mentally to be able to accept what's happening until I can find a better opportunity.
Meanwhile, I've been down for a week and my dispatcher doesn't know what they're doing with my tractor. I'm sure they're cutting even more horsepower and probably taking my top speed down to 60 while they're at it.
Stop by the Phoenix driver lounge for Knight. All you'll find in there is drivers who despise the PHX shop. I finally get it now. They've been good to me before, but those days are over.
I will keep everyone posted.
In my dispatcher's defense, he agrees that I should get better tires. He's had my back to the best of his ability all along, which has been a huge help many times.
This sucks. I'm going to try to relax.
I'm going to fire up the bass rig and play with the knobs for a while. Maybe that will help.
Once again, I greatly appreciate all who read and contribute to this thread. Thank you.

I understand where you are going wanting to get hurt, but I don't think it needs to go that far. Sometimes, going through a scale, you might be able to pull around back once you are weighed, walk in, and ASK them to look at the tires. Tell them the situation that you've been trying to get Knight to replace them. If the DOT agrees that they are way out of spec, have them shut you down.
Chances are, if you ASK them to evaluate those tires, they won't write you any tickets for being forced to drive on them. This way, nobody gets hurt (you or someone else on the road), no equipment is damaged, and you will be safer. Might get a level one out of it and if Knight gives up $20 or so like most companies, you'll profit a little bit while getting tires.
Perfect kick in the pants that they would need for motivation to get you new tires. -
I'm headed out tomorrow with the promise of new tires in November. Apparently if the bad wear doesn't go straight across the tread, it won't get replaced, but the wear is pretty low. My dispatcher fought for me, but safety walked him out and showed him the tread depth measurements for the "best" part of the tires... seriously. If I hit snow or ice, I'm stopping.
They're keeping me in the south. AZ, NM, TX and portions of CA this weekJarhed1964 Thanks this. -
