Just recently I was hired by UPS(not) out of STOCKTON(CONTRACTED TO ferguson) .(I live in SAC)The position I applied for was Dry Van Driver(hazmat req). My internet application I found out later was changed to Road Driver Special Services. This was to be an OTR position ;I was to be out 3-5 days OTR which was a good deal for me as I was tired of being out a month at a time.I was to drive the I-5 corridor -Anywhere from WA. to CA. as far west as UTAH.What HAPPENED-I drove local from stockton to Bakersfield,or Oakland or Visalia,Fresno. You get the picture.Of course using up all my hours, getting little sleep and being dispatched at anytime day or night,6 days a week.. I guess if youre a real sturdy Trucker this might work for you. Me I have a life, and HAD THEY TOLD THE TRUTH AT THE VERY BEGINNING.I wouldnt have taken this postion as I would have known that this was not what I was looking for.Well here we go again -THE BAIT and SWITCH.BEWARE -THIS IS A LOCAL POSITION!!How many companies out there are telling the truth? Are there any decent Trucking companies out there that are telling the truth??Any companies out there that actually give a dam about there drivers;and Dont tell me GORDON because THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!![]()

lol,he tried to make that sound as bad as he could...but failed..
"i have a life"??? its local and youre complaining? and you were expecting 3-5 days out??? why not just sleep in your trk,you would of been rdy!!! lol.
fail.
next company he will be with will be some company that will allow him to have a life 2 months out on the road, sleeping in the truck stop because they wont allow him to idle, then he might have something to cry about.
if i were to try and be on his side for a minute,i know for a fact ups likes to FULLY utilize its drivers, but theyre compensated well also. sounds like you might not of been "ups", but it was a "ups" route.Last edited: Oct 23, 2011

But the OP did bring up a good point. Many local driving jobs suck. By the time you are done you are to worn out to do anything but sleep and 1 day off a week I suspect was one less then he would of been getting driving the other job. There are many local drivers out there putting in 12 hr days and by the time they get home and get something to eat shower and go to bed the alarm is ringing for it to start all over again. Also some local gigs where I live are now paying percentage, by the load, stop or salaried if they can say you are doing sales and not by the hr. So you really have to watch out and ask the right questions in a interview.

Sleeping 5 hrs in your bed (if lucky) is a greatly exaggerated joy, all I can tell you. I see why the guy would prefer 3-5 days out to home every night, because after 14+ hrs of work + commute there is no time left even for a good sleep, not speaking of a meal and shower. I don't have it as bad as he described, yet I sleep in a truck (has a sleeper) 3-4 nights out of 5, I stick around only because of 2+ days off and it pays about the same as OTR flatbed (that's a true ungrateful ######).
The truth is, OTR or local jobs (most of them) you are putting in twice as many work hours as an average worker to make about the same average wages. If that's not a definition of a sucker, what is? But, it's our spineless, gutless wage slave's fault. -
