On other thing to remember... the DMs get paid for the miles you move and if you deliver on time. So there are some that don't care as long as you make them $$ and make them look good.
Set your 5's & 6's and plan your trips right and you should do fine.
As for the DM being your boss.... well... you and your DM should work as a team. And you can fire your DM. If you have problems just go talk to KC in Fontana and have him get you a new one....

BTW like LadyK said. Document everything. If your DM calls you on the phone, send a Mac1 "Just confirming what we talked about on the phone..." and either get a cheep camera you can download to a laptop or notebook or use your cell phone and take pics of the messages... CYA!
-
LOL... where you at? Our DM was just telling me a little bit ago, that she may need us to repower a load... lol... -
I third that motion! Like LadyK and Klingon said always document EVERYTHING that goes on! Also like LadyK said, take it to Carl or even Jon if necessary. Central is very, very good at wanting to see their drivers succeed and if something isn't being done properly (via their DM's) then they need to know about it so that they can fix it. I wouldn't say to take every problem you have to them or to make it your first step but if need be they are there and they will help you. We ourselves have gone to them a few times and they always came through for us and also followed up with us to make sure things were going good. If you need to visit Carl or Jon don't just walk in. Call their secretary and brief them on what you need to talk about and set up a time to have a meeting. Also don't go in there looking shlubby. Take a shower, brush your teeth, and put on some Central attire. Look professional! Show them you are serious and they will be more than glad to help you out. Another little pointer while you are in there is to not put the blame on anyone. They won't like to here that. Let them know there is a problem and that you need some extra attention to solve it. On one occasion Jon went to bat for us and got us a settlement from Volvo for over 20,000 and two new trucks! So they will definitely come through for you!
Not only document like LadyK said but also a nice professional letter stating your dilemma is good to have too.
One other thing, most office folk are strict Mormons (nothing wrong with that) so leave the trucker dialect at the door. Clean up the language and watch your words!
celticwolf and Klingon Thank this. -
yea thats the port in charleston s.c.. From what i gather about the whole mess the navy will eventually be taking over the charleston port when the new s.c port across the river from us is finished. When it'll be done who knows but they are clearing for it right now and the dredging of the savannah river has begun upstream to make way for those monster mega ships. I think that in time if they are required to burn the ultra low sulfer some exceptions will be made on the older ships but all the new ships built from a certain date will have to comply. Theres just way tooo much money to lose out on if they don't grandfather the older ones in.
