Been working here about 3 months. This is, by far, the worst company I have ever worked for. The recruiters lie about how much the pay is, payroll finds ways to screw you every week, and the planners and dispatchers have their favorite, or what they call 'red trucks', which they keep moving as opposed to making sure everyone is moving. I honestly do not see how this company hasn't been blown up by a pissed off driver. These people lie and smile right to your face. I guess all the rumors are true. I also understand why they hold 2 orientation classes a week now. If this company were to close its doors, it would do the world a great favor.

If you are talking about the Star out of Nashville you are absolutely right. I gave these guys a shot years ago and regretted not leaving sooner.

As a dispatcher it makes me sick when other dispatchers are not fair. Sure I have drivers I like (mainly because I know I can depend on them!) but I have to make sure everyone gets an assignment! That's my job...some dispatchers forget that.

If you don't ##### about hrs or how much time you have to pu and del despite any screw ups in ops and you will get on the dependable list at most OTR companies.

Start talking about safety this and that and being up all day waiting or I don't feel safe driving on chains and you will be on the back burner for causing your dm to actually think about what load they give you.

I have to agree with only part of what you have said. I worked for Star for right at five years. I was right out of driving school and I wanted to be home on the weekends. They weren't lying about the home time. I was left out one weekend in five years. The dispatchers do have their moments but as long as you ran your ### off and they knew you were doing everything in your power then they would work with you. That is my experience anyway. The payroll dept was actually the nicest dept that I came into contact with. They would always work with me when I had a problem with my check. Usually it was the dispatcher that was not turning in the correct accessorial pay for that week. Sure, I had times where I was like #### come on, but that is just the way it is. you gotta roll with the punches. I never made under 40,000 a year with them and the last two years with them I was home every night and off on weekends so I really didn't complain. Maybe you got a bad dispatcher. I know the company had them. Maybe I was just lucky while I was there. Sorry, but I just felt like I had to comment.

Why? Why do you gotta roll with the punches? Why can't they just get the #### straight the first time? It is their jobs in payroll to keep track of what they owe you....and then pay you, and pay you correctly. Why should I have to "roll with the punches".....I have done MY job, and I did it correctly---now payroll has to do theirs correctly.

I am convinced, that when there is something missing on ones check....it isn't a "miscommunication"---they are TRYING to rip you off, and hope you don't catch it. It doesn't happen in ANY other industry.
If payroll can't keep up....hire more people, but start getting it right!!!

I just did a post on Star Transportation denying my applications because I have been unemployed for a year. I am a student driver, never driven professionally, and got my CDL's to get a job. (I do have some experience driving combinations for my dad's construction company 35 years ago and numerous straight trucks throughout the last 20 years.) Maybe it's a good thing, who knows.

Seriously?!? They turned you down because of that? How dare they!!! (Where is that "roll eye's, while puke'n, while laughing my ### off, with a carrott in my ear emoticon"?)

Hopefully the carrot is sticking in your ear and not elsewhere. It is becoming an issue with a lot of different industries by passing over people who are unemployed. Unfortunately there are a lot of jobs / careers that are gone forever. I spent over 35 years in the construction trade and made real good money. Those days are gone. Didn't make sense for me to go back and finish college. I have a son who graduated in May from a local University and works in a bar. At my age I am not going to be able to compete with the younger generation expect in my trade, which no longer exist. Bottom line if you can satisfy the DOT requirement for employment then you should be given a chance.
