Maverick Transportation

I may be wrong on this since it was 7months ago when I went through it. But, I think the first day is the longest and the rest are like from 7-4. The first week is orientation and the second week you will be in the "barn" (that's where you learn how to strap, chain and tarp loads that we haul). After that you go on the road with your trainer for a minimum of 3 weeks. They will try to find a trainer that lives near you. You are in Nashville and I know of a couple of trainers that live in TN. As far as the off day. We never got one, but that doesn't mean that you wont. Well I take that back. We did get one off day but that was when it came that snow and shutdown I-40 in Little Rock. After you get out of your trainer truck, test out and get your own truck. They will get you a load going home and give you a few days off. Hope this helps and good luck.

 

I have six dogs, and only Hugo wanted to go — what does that say about the other five? Frankly, I wouldn't want the extra responsibility or the potential distraction while driving. I know first hand how difficult they can be at times and I certainly wouldn't wan't to have to find a vet in an emergency either

Training has been fabulous, Maverick is what you and others have said. I test out of the barn tomorrow. My class was originally 32 strong; today we are but 11 — the few, the proud! I owe my career choice directly to you. I had found some of your early postings about possibly going to Werner, as I was looking to do the same. You and I seem to share some similar backrounds as well as I am a former Army Ranger (1983-86), but also due to the economy we shared some similar economic hardships.

You being a former SEAL and having worked with some of your brothers in Coronado back in the day, I put a lot of faith in what you were posting. When you said you had changed from Werner to Maverick, I did some serious due diligence and realized Maverick wass the company for me as well.

So a personal, heart-felt thank you for helping me make the right decision!

BTW, I met Sarge here yesterday. We didn't have long to chat as I was on my way to the barn. Glad I got to meet and introduce myself to him.

Training has been great and everything others have said is dead-on accurate. It is tough though and not for everyone. My class started with 32 students and tomorrow only 11 of us remain to test out of the barn to go out with our road instructors.

You will learn a lot, will have homework every day from day one. You will have tests every day and homework every night once they offer you a job. You will sweat here as the weather is still relatively warm.

The instructors are awesome, friendly and have great senses of humor. That said, you screw up, don't pay attenetion or follow Maverick policy, i.e drinking in the hotel during training and you WILL be gone.

The physical testing gets the overweight, unhealthy folks weeded out pretty quickly! This is not a driving job ' it's real work with the benefit of driving. If you just want to bump docks, try CRST, or Werner, et. al.

How intense is the DOT physical at Maverick?

 

I have my application turned in and they are processing it. How long is the wait? Would like to get going asap.

They run you through the ringer. You would think you're trying to get a job with NASA than just being a truck driver. But they do a good job to make sure your healthy and able to do the work. Should not have a problem passing as long as you're decent health.

 

I had a back surgery about ten years ago but doesn't give me any problems. you think that's a problem?

 

just get a form from your doctor that says you're okay to do the physical work with no limitations.
