I was wondering if it is better to go to Prime's company school or go to a local school then apply to Prime. There is a local school where I live that I can obtain my CDL in 3 1/2 weeks and then I could apply to Prime and start making money being with a trainer. How long does it usally take to start making money if you go through Prime's company school. Also the local school cost 3200 up front and I see that Prime school is free if you drive for a year.

i went to a local school out of my hometown. took me 4mo because it was a nationally credited school. Then i went to prime to do my 60000 miles. But prime isnt a bad company and when ur in the school for prime ut out 4 weeks then take your road test. and after that its 500wk base pay. But u can also make more depending on how much the truck moved. and after that its 600 up until u upgrade to ur own truck. hope this helps

If you don't know, maybe you should ask.

Recent non-prime school grads start training at $500/.10 for the first 4 weeks. Then move to the $600/.12 wage that Prime CDL grads get during training phase (not instructing phase)

Adamrocks was mistaken about Prime school grads, kinda, but was relaying his own experience as someone who trained at Prime but got his CDL elsewhere.

Short answer: Prime and keep your money.

    Longer explanation:

    1. You don't pay any up-front cash for the CDL at Prime--all you "pay" is time.
    2. You get a 10,000 mile credit toward the minimum miles during training. That puts you 10,000 miles closer to upgrading and getting out of a trainer's truck.
    3. You get real-world, on-the-road experience while learning to become a truck driver, not just the holder of a CDL.
    4. Stay a year with Prime and there is no tuition cost to you. Stay 6 months and it's still only $1,750. You will want to stay a year with your first employer anyway so you can establish a valid OTR work history.

Why wouldn't you do it? Keep your $3,200 up-front money and use it for something else or not borrow it.

Does Prime have a tuition reimbursement program and if so how does it work?

Yes. $250/month. From what we were told WHILE IN TRAINING ONLY, up to ?$5k? Which means JCW got 3 reimbursements. I'll know better after I get the next few months under our belt.
