I am finishing up my paper work for McElroy. I live north of Atlanta and figure they are as good as any for a newbie. I understand because of the owners religious affiliations they try very hard to make sure you are home on weekend's especially Saturdays. I hear that everything has to be tarped but they claim 65% per tarped. Pay starts out for inexperienced drivers at .40 cmp that includes tarp pay. I have read a lot of the post here and McElroy seems to fair well. I definitely like the idea of a smaller company.

During school we had CT Trucking (Comcar), TMC and Maverick come talk with us. CT is a smaller company based out of Savannah, GA. I had an application in with them but they are not hiring in my area at the present. Maverick sends me a email or calls me weekly, just not sure I want to work for such a large company.

I may be a little older than the average newbie but I believe the extra work in flat bedding will be worth it.

I would go back in a heart beat but wife is in school to get her CDL and teams don't make as money flatbedding at they do otherwise...

From what I have been told by the drivers I meet from McElroy, they seem to be a good company. They have a "McElroy way" and thats the way it is. Seems to work.

Maverick is sort of the same way, it's the Maverick way or go away... Nothing wrong with that, they want it the way they want it. One thing about maverick, I would have to say they have about the best flatbed training program.

I used to work for McElroy and I can tell you first hand that they WILL get you home every weekend and they WILL start you off at a good CPM, but you will absolutely have to tarp most loads. The "pre-tarped loads" percentage comes from them averaging out all of their drop yard locations at Lowes Distribution Centers and U.S. Gypsum Plants. But, even those loads require you to either secure bungies and/or add corner protectors before you leave out. Having said that, if I ever decided to go back to OTR, I would go back to McElroy in a heartbeat. ESPECIALLY since Mr. McElroy just bought a crap load of new ProStars to replace the 9200I rigs :biggrin_25520:

I figure tarping is part of the deal. A little exercise won't hurt either. I got a little more paperwork to turn in and I should be good to go. I also like the idea of being home on weekends for at least a day and a half.

When I get my year in I'm going to Jordan. I've never heard a driver say a bad thing about them. Good pay, home on weekends, 65-67 mph, and run the the south alot.

    BUMP!

    Any more sugestions?

I was talking to Lone Star, they said they'd train me 3-5 days at the terminal how to flatbed, and pay .42cpm, offered me a plane ticket to orientation....Then they told me they are going to E-Logs on the 1st of the year, as well as they do not have EZPass and will "reinburse you" :biggrin_2557:

I knew it sounded to good
