No ma'am I did not mean that at all. She is trying to discredit ppl based on their experience level, while not having any herself. I'm a 3rd generation trucker, grew up in a Pete, and I have my own authority. I choose to drive for roehl, so please tell me how I know nothing about this industry yet you do.
Stay away from ROEHL!!

Clipping, here is what I don't understand. You started this thread by putting out some accusations about your husbands personal experience. Did you not think that you might get some different opinions based on other drivers personal experiences?
You say that everyone is insulting you, but I see calling people jerks, etc. Sometimes you have to look at your own behavior before you criticize others.
As for me, yes I've only been driving for a couple of years. However, I come from a very large family with trucking in our roots. Right now I have three uncles and an aunt who are driving. One of the uncles owns four trucks and has three drivers working for him. My mother was a dispatcher and accountant in the industry for years. So basically what I'm saying is, I'm pulling from my knowledge and my experience. You don't know everyone on here or their knowledge/experience.
Again, I'm sorry that your husband had a bad experience at Roehl. However, it doesn't appear that many other people are having the same. You have to accept the fact that its different for everyone and everyone has a right to voice their opinion on the matter since you posted it in a PUBLIC FORUM. -
In my opinion, I would stay away from 99% of the OTR companies. Do I have the magic company for you? No I don't. But everyone is different. I just can't see anyone willing to work for for free. Yet thousands of drivers do it every day. Stay away from companies that advertise in truck stop magazines. That's a big one!
As for being treated decent, that's a matter of interpretation. As a driver, you are just the neccessary evil to make the company successful. I am treated very well but I have a CBA that ensures I am treated fairly.
Good luck to your husband in finding a good job. This forum has good and bad company sections. Sadly, I don't see much difference between the two.Last edited: Oct 26, 2011
andre, DOTrevenuepatrol and BorderBandit Thank this. -
929, you say you probably would be homeless except for Roehl, but I don't believe that for a minute. From what I can see of your posts here you had the will and the hunger to make it. You still seem to have a chip on your shoulder. Most driven to be successful people do! I sure do. And you don't think you would have made it at any other company? even flea-bitten scamps like Swift and CREngland? I doubt you would been denied. So what are you really doing? Hyperbole to make your point seem grander than it is? If that's the case, why?
Roehl cheerleaders want to defend their company here on the Bad Company forum. Hey, that speaks well of Roehl. They have people to defend them, which is more than what Werner has. But, I do know Roehl is cheap. They do make mistakes on checks. They do have to put a section about Truck Abandonment in their manual. Sometimes they have jugs of pee sitting in front of outgoing gates. Why would someone make a statement to the company like that? Just clowning around? Why would something crazy happen like someone poking holes in the airbags of some tractors? Just horsing around? They have constant turnover. They are constantly recruiting. They still have Truck driving schools in Marshfield and Gary, right? Why would that be? They still get you a bus ticket to report to orientation, but no orientation pay, right?
They fit the very definition of a coolie carrier.
And why would I NOT put the good things I know about Roehl in here? I could write good things about the company, could be useful information to someone. The mechanics at Iron Mountain are the best in the company. I have no doubt that I would have had a much different experience and opinion if I had driven out of Marshfield. But this has gone past that. The cheerleaders don't list anything bad. They seem to be trying to make points and defend some position or other. And I don't seem to list anything good.
I mean, why is Roehl a good company to do a lease from? Drivers get plenty of miles! Why? It's seems as if there is a heirarchy for the load planners to follow, and the o/o is at the top of that list (I guess this doesn't change when you finally own your tractor, like it does at CRE and Stephens and the other flea-bitten dogs), followed closely by the military program guys (flat rate pay, plenty of miles there!), then the training fleets (national), then the national fleet drivers, then finally the hometime fleet drivers.
It's just a theory. Is it right or wrong? Does it mean the company's good or the company's bad? Am I just full of it? Throughout everything I've posted, can you call BS on me? Do I really hate Roehl that much?
Of course, I don't. I don't care about Roehl. I've got a job and I backup plan after backup plan to get another if I have to. My personal decision was to assign Roehl to the Not Worthy, I can do better file, and that's it.
What this thread is about now is this arguing back and forth from extreme POVs. Honestly, the signal to noise ratio has exceeded useful parameters.driverkc and BorderBandit Thank this. -
To Andre: Well said, good point(s). I was suprised to see that this thread made 15 pages. But it damb sure did. Wouldn't suprise me if it went all the way to 16 now.

:smt068I'm done here this thread has ran its course. Andre you got me all figured out bro. Peace out
-
Not that it matters at this point, but I got paid to go to orientation not sure where the orientation pay thing is coming from.
-
My company doesn't pay for orientation.
-
It looks like that was a Roehl truck that hit that van last night on the Indiana Pike and killed 7 people.
-
How is this even relevant to the thread? As if one driver making a mistake is somehow related to making Roehl a bad company. WTF is wrong with you man?
