I can confirm loudhornsrule's assessment of Sunoco hiring, I went through the entire process. Have been waiting for about a week now for my bloodwork and hair follicle drug screen to come back. They said ten days. They also give you a thorough physical demands test, a lung capacity test and a 240 question psych evaluation. It's thorough as hell, but I've gotta say I really had a good impression from the three bosses I had my sit down interview with. They all seemed like people I would be happy working for.

I have been thinking about heading down to the Midland TX area for a few months now and getting a job driving in the oilfields. so yesterday i told my boss thanks for the job (yes, i gave several weeks notice), but i have to find something that pays better.
Does anyone know the cleanest/cheapest motels in the area? I have a few job listings from craigslist that i'll look into first, but what i've read so far in this thread, you are better off knocking on doors that have "Need CDL Drivers" out front.
I would appreciate any advice/info as i'm heading down tuesday with a quick stop in Asheville. thanks in advance.

Locating a hotel in a 50 mile radius of Midland TX could prove challenging. I would try and secure a reservation instead of just showing up. Now some companies help place workers in hotels or apartments etc. So ask about possible housing should you get hired on with a company.
As for hotels, we have all the typical hotels like Hilton, Days Inn, Fairview etc etc but here is some low key and possible affordable hotels.
West Texas: lot of oilfield workers live here and have hear guys getting jobs just talking to drivers around the hotel:
