So I have never heard a sound as scary as the one I heard yesterday! I was coming along at about 55 mph and as I eased of the throttle to start slowing down to enter the delivery site all of a sudden I heard a strange metallic grinding sound. I thought " not good" , by the time I had slowed down and pulled off the road into the delivery site i could hear and feel serious metal on metal grinding! I parked the truck and got underneath to see what the hell it was. I could smell oil and see it pouring out under the forward diff ! The front of the diff cover had a big piece missing and i could see a gear in there , now I am no mechanic but even I know thats not good! Anyway got onto the boss and got the spare tractor out to tow my trailer set back to the yard after unloading it and they towed my truck back the yard. I got a lift with the wrecker back to the yard. I now have a few days (wonder if it will be longer?) off while it gets fixed. Bummer is I am making a good 300 bucks a day at the moment so I am a bit pizzed! I asked if they could rent a tractor or put plates on the spare they said no not worth it. Ah well I will enjoy a bit of time at home with the missus and make a nuisance of myself on TTR !!

Losing a rearend sucks. I was getting off at the quick trip in Tulsa a few months ago and blew my power divider. Nothing worse than thinking I'm going to need a tow truck to go 200 yards down to Peterbilt. Thankfully I locked the power divider in and she moved. But it was still the most godawful sound I've ever heard.

Shouldn't take anymore than a day to change out a rear end.

We only pay 4-5 hours warranty to dealers...I know the feeling of a 4 hour job taking a week though!:biggrin_25523:

Just got the call, trucks going to be ready to go tommorow. Ah well back to the grindstone. Good news is they just picked up another 70 loads of the good paying stuff. Looks like I could be vacationing in the Bahamas this christmas :biggrin_255:
