WOW! Not the response I was expecting. After reading your post, I may have to side with the rest of the guys on this one.
Number 1. If your husband said he will divorce you if you won't "allow" him to be a truck driver, I would tell him "bye". Also tells me marriage can't be that strong. My wife and I have been married 26 years this August and I have never told her, nor she me that I can't do something. You have to support and grow with each other to succeed in marriage. A strong tree will bend in heavy winds, while a weak one will break in half.
Number 2: Thank God we don't have any kids together?????? Wow.
Your posts definitely indicates you are an intelligent, independant woman that probably maybe better off with out a "job hopper husband" that is eventually just going to drag you down. You should seek out a stable guy, a professional such as your self.
Hey, turns out this post wasn't about trucking at all!
Hope everything works out for you both however it turns out. This is Doctor Frazier Crane .....good day
So my husband wants to become a trucker

I don't take kindly to people like this. And this is me in nice mode.

My personal feelings remain the same as in my previous post. If he is, indeed, a job hopper, chances are his stint as a trucker will be short-lived. He'll probably move on to something else once the reality of the job sets in. -

I got my CDL temp's and told the Girlfriend (who I have been with 15 yr's now) about it.
She thought it was great that I was trying to improve myself. She was real excited when I told Her about all the pay and bennies I would get in Trucking over all the dead end Temp job's I have been doing.
Then She asked about the hour's I would be working. Keep in mind the only thing She know's about Trucking is what She has seen on that "Ice Road Trucker" show......with all the "bleep's" included.......
I explained to Her about the 11/14/70 rule's....WOW She said....those are long hour's......why yes.......yes they ARE I said.....
Then I told Her I would be quite lucky to have one day off every 10 day's or more......
Well THAT sure threw a 5 gallon bucket of water on the old campfire!!! The last two night's at the Supper table were VERY quiet needless to say.....
So I may be applying at WalMart afterall........ -
It seems like people are very quick to judge other peoples' relationships. There is no right or wrong answer, only what works for two people. Just because someone does not want or can not be away from their partner does not make them a bad person, just as a partner who is fine being away from their partner doesn't mean that they don't love them. It boils down to what works for two people. No one else can judge what will work for you.

Should I press on with my Trucking career in HOPE'S that She will continue loving me while I'm gone? Or should I work for someone like Wally World.....without hope's of ever retiring.......in HOPE'S of keeping "my Girl".....either way it is just a HOPE!!!
I should take up being a professional Poker player......even though they are betting HUNDRED'S of THOUSAND'S of dollar's in one hand.......
Thier decision's seem to come about a helluva lot easier than a potential Trucker's!!!!
No.....I DO NOT have hundred's of thousand's to play Poker with.........but I DO love my Lady though!!! But life is just nothing short of a giant Poker game at time's..........Is it not?????? -
My husband and I spoke for great lenghts Monday morning. From the research I have done there are lots of options in the trucking world for jobs. Many of them local or LTL. When he decided he still wanted to do long haul I told him then this is the end of the marriage. This morning I filed for divorce. (god bless my prenup).
Led everyone is different, but for me only seeing my husband 2-4 days a month is not a marriage, its not a relationship, and the few women who are able to handle this are either brave souls or enjoy the space. Trucking is a lifestyle not just a job and everyone involved sufffers. Led you can either go forward with this or maybe find a real career (other then Walmart) that would allow you to make a respectable income and keep your girlfriend happy. Trucking is a life where you give up your LIFE to make a wage.
You have to ask yourself what matters most to you Led. Maybe the two of you can work something out, but if the long work hours and the distance is too much for your girlfriend this will most likey not end well. -
Sorry thing's have come to this point for you. At least you were kind enough to get it out into the open BEFORE He hit's the road Greencherry.....hopefully all the dirty legal work will be done before He depart's also......hopefully you are at least THAT kind to Him anyway.
A lot of Company's will not hire anyone "local" until they have "paid thier due's" on OTR.....which nowaday's is about a year.....sometime's two or even three depending on the Company............and the "veteran's" (see the ONE year comment) want those job's.....
When one start's ANY new career.....you start from the bottom.....
I'm sure my Girlfriend would support me at least THAT long anyway! But it sound's to me as though thing's were quite sour between you two long before this......
As far as I go......I am going to keep on struggling with my Temp job's. It doesn't pay much at all....but the hour's are sure nice!! I worked 6 am to 2 pm EXACTLY.......and now I'm having a few Brewski's. (I'm from Wisconsin....what ELSE do you expect!!!) THAT sure won't happen Trucking!!!But the money sux...with no bennies either.....
I'm not even sure I want to do Trucking for a living right now. As I have said my Girlfriend isn't too thrilled about it, and both my Parent's.....now in thier 70's.....wouldn't be thrilled with me just driving off into the sunset either.
But if the above factor's weren't in play......I would be all over it myself......
Again.....sorry thing's came to what they are between you both.....
