Thats a "stretch" on that correlation isnt it???,Oh do you compare Emerson to Walmarts private fleet? In no way are they going to replace their fleet wih SNI,
Also your theory on Money saved,,hmm if Walmart is always the cheaper option and your wages stay either constant and or a minimal rise you still save money,,correct? what about the other chains,,,Target,Kmart,Costco,SafewayWegmans,Kroger,Food Lion,Winn Dixie,etc... they buy the absolute same products as Walmart and yet their prices are substanially higher on avg than Walmart,so your comment would be more inclined on their side, same products charging you a higher price, they are doing the same thing Walmart is

The list of private fleets replaced by the likes of SNBC and others is long and illustrious.

If you read your business history you would know that Walmarts claim to fame was and is the private fleet. It gives them the ability to put the product on the shelf when they want it there. Target and Kmart didn't believe and dumped their fleets...... so now who's on top?

And don't think for a New York minute that Walmart wouldn't dump their fleet if there was an advantage....because they would. I'll bet their cpm is deep into 2.50 a hub mile and $75 a driver hour. That's alot of money.

In my short time in trucking I pretty much come to the conclusion, that to do this you better love it, for if one's doing it for the money only they might be surely disappointed. Trucking has a broad spectrum, I believe it's finding the right niche, people etc. and put ones time in.

The other retailers do not buy the same products WalMart does . WalMart has vendors run a separate line of lower quality products for them .
"The Wal-Mart vice president responded with strategy and argument. Snapper is the sort of high-quality nameplate, like Levi Strauss, that Wal-Mart hopes can ultimately make it more Target-like. He suggested that Snapper find a lower-cost contract manufacturer. He suggested producing a separate, lesser-quality line with the Snapper nameplate just for Wal-Mart. Just like Levi did."

WalMart keeps it's fleet to improve its image as they doing publicizing "going green "
But how many drivers have they hired compared to how many additional SNI trucks they have contracted ?

you make a good point but we have seen a constant increase in the cost of living a steady decline in relative earnings and the quality of life for the average worker also under duress.

It really doesn t matter how different chains compete against each other; the end result when they kill the local manufacturers with their low low prices the also kill off the ability for their customers to buy product

You hit that nail on the head. I have friends who drive for WalMart. As some former WM drivers have said on this forum, their jobs are changing and in their opinion, not necessarily for the better. WM is moving their DC's ever closer to reduce mileage traveled and contracting out more and more. Their opinion is since Sam Walton passed away and the kiddie "bean counters" are in charge, that should a viable option to the private fleet make better financial sense, they would be gone in a heartbeat. It's all numbers anymore, loyalty and hard work just don't seem to mean much anymore.
