Does anyone know anything about Smokey Mountain Traning Institute

Phones have never been disconnected. The phone system was down due to Windstrean systen glitch. SMTI is open 7 days a week. The owners son was killed in an accident on his bike on Sept 18th. That's the only time the school has been closed in almost 9 years. They only closed for a half day for the services for Rusty Singletary, Associate Director. Rusty would not want the school closed. You can be sure I would have liked to have closed it for a few days.
This is the only privately owned accredited school in the state of TN. The Council on Occupational Education is their council. They have a campus in Asheville NC as well and the only accredited one in NC.
How do I know this? I am Smokey Mountain Trucking Institute's Director and Rusty's mother.

I start tomorrow. I went yesterday and done paperwork. I am doing the weekend course and will be out in 10 weeks. The staff is super friendly and just good ol country boys! Other than it being so far from my house I really like the place!

 

I had a friend graduate from that school, he had nothing but great things to say about it. Haven't personally worked with any graduates from there though.

 

I think you nay have stopped at the old United School. They are closed and have been for several months. You can't walk up to SMTI's door there is a fence with a wide gate that is about 5' high around it. Trucks and trailers have been there for years. Gary Whaley Trucking, USA office is located in the side building on that site. I own the trucking company. We use 12 of the trucks for training students. The rest are in the yard behind the school. I don't know where you went but it doesn't sound like SMTI. The gate is locked when we close. Come back and visit with us. Have a great day.

Today was my first day at Smokey Mountain Trucking and I had a great time. I did a pretest early am and then watched videos all day then did some CDL Manual Studying.
