usually it is intercooler ore boost line air leak. lower torque and if you haul a lot you have to loose speed and downshift every hill and you loose fuel reaccelerating

I'd have to second that opinion, have the intake leak tested from the filter can to the motor. When you say used to, how quick did it fall out? This ULSD isn't worth much as a fuel anymore, but they sure think it is at the pump!

Maybe this has been addressed. If so, sorry but, put into an '08 780. Every 10 to 20 seconds the air tanks release pressure. I have heard this on other Volvo's. Is there something I can do to adjust this?

That is not the air tanks, but the air dryer discharging. It can be one of several problems. Watch your gauges, if the pressure is dropping and building back up that quickly, you have a serious air leak someplace. If the gauges are steady, then the dryer itself needs to be serviced. The desiccant cartridge should be replaced and the valves and seals usually done too.

Unloader valve o-ring leakage in the air compressor sends a steady supply of air through the signal line to the air dryer purge valve. Install unloader valve kit in air compressor. Also check air governor mounting if a D-2 type governor is used.

You have no idea what youre talking about. Newer volvos have only 1 EGR valve. Your 05 columbia got crappy mpg because all ddec v detroits did. The classic with the non egr got better because its non egr. Most non emmisions trucks did get better mpg because egr kills the mpg. Which is why 2010 detroit dd15 is getting 8mpg because they cut back egr flow 50%. I have worked on a lot of trucks and Volvo are not any harder than the rest. They deffinetly hold up better than the columbia. I am a detroit man but give the volvo its due. You can even check trouble codes on the dash which ive yet to see in any other truck. And i mean read the acual code not a flash code. Bassically it doesnt matter which truck, it depends on how well you take care of it.

oh yeah and using a fan solenoid as an interchangable part is laughable. DUH your brakes are probably interchangeable, so are your tires and lightbulbs. lol Actually the volvo has an electric fan clutch so he wont have to worry about a solenoid

I am a Mechanic and MM is an idiot. Not that what he was saying wasnt true but he has no idea why they are true. You cant compare apples to oranges. I worked at a detroit dealer for years but we also worked on all makes. Had about 40 petes and over a hundred volvos on our lot that we maintained as well as the detroit work. Out of all those volvos the major problem was the egr valves. Which is common on all egr motors. How everver you are looking at the newer emission engines then they have only the one EGR valve and seem to be better. If youre big classics (which I LIke) were just as fuel efficient and economical than why dont you see swift and schnieder buying them by the hundreds. Its too bad youre not a DD15 fan because I love em. 2010 getting 8mpg and power and response time cant be matched. But you take a gamble with any newer truck and engine combo. Thats just the way it is. Keep plenty money for repairs no matter what you pick because with todays engines. a $4000 repair bill is not uncommon. Best bet is to follow schn ieders lead and build gliders with non emissions detroit. Brand new truck without all the emissions
