Moving the kingpin on a doonan step deck???

Doonan offers it as an option on their step decks. Just because ya'll have never seen it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The folks in the know above have accurately described how to do it.

 

I couldn't find one part of my post where I said it didn't exist. I do know that the Doonan stepdeck I pulled didn't have this option and if his is the same then I think my description of what he would have to do in order to move the kingpin correctly is fairly accurate.

 

I have two positions on my 2015 Doonan step deck. I use the rear position that’s ~30” from the front of the trailer. Anyone know if a small gap between the top of the kingpin and the flat bar that bolts in across the top is normal?

I have about 1/32”, maybe as much as 1/16”, of daylight between mine and there is a slight bit of movement in the kingpin itself that I notice when I’m putting a kingpin lock on it. Not too much slop when taking off or stopping, but I’d just like to know if all of them are setup like this or if mine has worn a little over the years.

Btw, I am not the first owner of the trailer. It’s had the same gap since I’ve owned the trailer. Hasn’t gotten worse in the passed 3 years since I’ve owned it. Just curious…
