yes, this IS normal in trucking, especially with new recruits. they will always find something. age should not have been an issue, the tickets "might have been" however, what is minor to you when you first dealt with them could be major later on.
glad to hear you got another job, drive safe and avoid tickets, accidents while in your probationary time with the new company. -
But you passed the physical, right?
What about your criminal background?
Is that clean? Could there (even) be someone with a similar name with a criminal history that would trigger a rejection? (Yes, it does happen)
How is your credit history? Low Score? Many companies will not hire someone with a poor credit rating, because people with low credit scores are more likely to steal fuel, tires, equipment or even hi-jack loads. -
This age thing is bothersome. I am 61...starting my CDL class in two days. Is that going to be a problem? My credit is lousy too....no major tickets...seat belt a couple of times...am I wasting my time and money?

I wish that I could make this anonymous for my own protection, several years ago I worked at USA Truck thru a temp agency as a recruiter. Actually a local company here in Fort Smith went out of buisness and they hired like 40 of us for clerical work. I lasted about a week, a few of my girl friends though stayed on and got hired onto the company full time in thier respective jobs. After about 6 months a good friend of mine was threatend with her job because of her weight. She wasnt huge probably about 170-180. She got an attorney and was able to keep her job. Then I remembered how when I was there you can have charges on your record as long as was not of a sexual crime or drugs or against children, some tickets but if your overweight then no. i made the call to respective bus stations to buy tickets for guys and ladies. So here I am 7 years later, wanting to pursue a real career and Im so afraid that Im going to have the same thing happen to me. Im in good health BP, eyes, no drugs, no charges, no tickets but im fat. like 230. but I wear it well and i am working on that. What happens if you go to school bc your prehired and then get to orientation and they let you go. I will be ###### if I pay back the school when they didnt hold up thier end of the bargain. At this time I am scheduled to leave 11/14/11, I asked my recruiter hey do they hire you then you go to school then they fire you. She said no that is why they prequalify you before you go to school. So I guess we will see. I have seen nothing in the DOT physical that indicates that you have to be a certain size. and I would assume that if you pass the physical in school that you would pass it in orientation but Im new to this and i dont know didly. Im going to look at it this way. If i get let go in orientation then that is God's way of telling me I need to do something else. maybe divine intervention or something. but im keeping the faith and it would be thier loss if they let me go cuz im good people.

Some companies NEVER say why! Usually when I disapproved of someone for reasons outside their MVR ticket and accident record and work history, I would not say why. This is to avoid the possibility of a lawsuit.
Your reason may not be wrong BUT you only need to be incorect one time...
At my last place we had a few locations where the entire staff was female. Anyone witn a criminal past for sexual stuff or spousal abuse, etc. was refused.
These were usually the persons pressing the hardest to find out why they were rejected 'cause they knew the reason...
I had two stock answers:
"The insurance Co. said NO!"
and
"You do not meet our requirements."
Most places work this way. -
I've seen new-hires get sent home just because they were weird. All the other new-hires said so, the truck company people thought so, and, bamm, they're gone, even though they passed physical and etc.
