Expediting isn't much more than LTL since the economy took a dive . Shippers aren't willing to pay the high rates . FECC has given contractors list of brokers to use to get out of dead areas .
What really sucks is when the expedite carriers give certain customers discounted fuel surcharges . No way I'd accept that if I was a contractor .

Not hard if you want to go with a cargo van but you won't make an money there . Do you have a Class B with hazmat ? You might have a slight chance of getting in a straight truck but there really isn't money to be made for team members from different households .

Not true - I'm in a straight truck and my co-drivers make $650-$1100 per week. If they're talented, they have the opportunity to go Lead Driver and then can DOUBLE that figure. Having a knowledgeable O/O or Lead Driver is the key to success.

I acknowledge the best in the industry can make that but how many ? What is "made" ? Are they on a 60/40 contract ? Has the cost of fuel and other expenses been deducted from that ?
I'm considering getting away from tanker and teaming with my wife on a straight truck .

Aspire to be the best, Dude! A owner from Panther called me outta the blue 15 months ago and I parleyed that into owning my own truck now. If ya have half a brain and your wife is able to contribute you'll be fine. If you do not own a truck I have owners I could recommend, as they are "Hit & Miss". I currently have a Class A license w/ Hazmat and I make 3x more than I ever made tractor/trailer. Plus, I don't hafta enter the "rodeo" that happens after 1800 at truck stops - I park when and where I want. When's the last time you were out on the road, saw something you would of LOVED to check out, but could not get the tractor/trailer over...I see it, I want it, I STOP! Good luck to you.

    RickG Thanks this.

Your absolutely correct! This is why I say I'm not a truck driver but a paid tourist. But best way to start is drive for a fleet owner for at least 6 months, learn the in and outs of the business, if you still love it or at least like it get your own straight truck.
