Im not going to get into a global warming discussion, theres too much there to discuss.. Even if global warming is a "natural cycle", there's no doubt that we could use cleaner air in many parts of the world.
When you think about the open road, no doubt the restrictions don't make as much sense. However, if I lived in somewhere like Atlanta or Detroit or LA, I would be hoping for some better air, too...
The EPA regs dont apply the same way to construction equipment and CAT will NEVER stop making dozers, graders, etc. The 07 engines for On-highway will begin entering construction equipment in 2010 and in stationary units (gensets and industrial engines) in approx 2012.
In the long run, this is a good thing, because it will force manufacturers to start making equipment more efficient, not just in emissions, but fuel economy (which the new engines need some work on, I know)

I saw a Freightliner FL60 with a pickup bed once.
I dunno. It may be able to handle a 3126. They aren't that big.
I'd like to see that myself. Mack should get in on the act as well. They wouldn't do bad at all.
I knew a guy once that somehow managed to shoehorn a 671 Detroit into an F350 dump truck. He had some small driveline problems with that thing after that. Gee, I wonder why.
Not likely. Caterpillar does very well. I read once that the Israeli military bought some D-10's and D-11's, outfitted them with armor, and used them to storm the facilities of their enemies. A piece of machinery equipped in such a fashion makes a formidable weapon. If the Israelis thought of that, chances are other nations did too. -
I drive an F-650 with a 3126 (C7) Cat. AN F-150 could barely haul it as cargo...wouldn't come close to fitting under the hood.

Thats typical ford claiming they have Cat engines. Even if it was true which I doubt. Ford changes their vehicles more then hillary clinton changes her tune..

Cummins 6.7 (5.9 last year) is the base engine in the Ford 650/750. Ford kicked the Powerchoke out of the chassis. Only Cat and Cummins options now. Funny the ISB 6.7 is the same engine in the Dodge. Powerchoke is too weak for the bigger truck and the C7 is too large for the lighter duty. Also Cat got kicked out of pete and kw medium duty trucks completely. Can't get a Cat in a new 335 even if you wanted its all Pete engines made by cummins.

Also I wouldn't count Cat out of the truck market. They are too big. They just screwed up for the past couple years. Give detroit and cummins a chance too screw up and cat will be back in there.
Finally, Dodge will have a diesel in its half ton in 2010 made by Cummins and Gm by Isuza right?
