Hi everyone! My name is Carlos HIRT I just bought a 2000 freightshaker Century Detroit diesel series 60 13 speed with 1,400,000 miles on it, The truck seems allright it had been taken good care of it. but what worries me is that the owner said the engine was rebuilt at only 400,000k miles so now its got 1 million. I do understand that it may be on it's last legs. so I was doing some research and I see that the common problems on these motors are the bullgear cyl head dropping valves and injectors?
I was wondering if replacing the bearings rods and main, a new bull gear and a rebuilt cyl head would give me some miles to work. the turbo-charger is a year old so that should be allright for a while.
Thanks!
New to trucking and bought an old truck!

Rod and main bearing replacement used to be part of regular maintenance at around 725,000 miles and can extend the life of your engine. BEFORE doing this (and before you bought the truck) you should have had an oil analysis done. This would have told you whats going on inside the engine and a good guesstimate of whether or not its going to croak tomorrow or not. I am scared to ask how much you paid as I know of 06 trucks in really good shape (maintenance records and everything) with a heck of a lot less miles on them that can be bought for 25000.

BTW, if you do replace rod and mains, get the oil pump replaced and at least have the oil cooler cleaned out (if not replaced) while your there.
Chirt Thanks this. -
Wow!! sorry guys! I never got an e-mail alert to read your posts on this thread...

He said the motor went at 400K and they installed a new motor.
but the funny thing is that on the display message it says engine miles:560,000 or 630,000 miles I forgot now..I wonder why does it say that.. -
You can get a history of the engine by taking the serial number off the engine or the vin from your truck and having it checked at a dealer. It will tell you everything that has been done to the engine as long as it was done at an authorized dealer.
Chirt Thanks this.
