Thank you for the truth!!!! It hurts but it is the truth! I was a driver in 2004... did other things now coming back with my big smile. I have been reading these stories and wondering what in the world has happened while I was gone. Driving is my passion, a big difference from just a job. I am not just looking for money, but pooch program, and a decent truck I don't have to push.
The company jumping that I see, I hope those people do not carry their personal lives like that. Commitment, loyalty, in for the long haul, that is what this industry needs. Accepting that no one, or no company is perfect. Every action causes a reaction. I have to say if your muffin agrees to you driving to keep America going KOOOOODOOOOS!!!!! It takes a good team for that to happen. As for me and my pooch we are going to see if USA will have us!
Thank you for the refreshing honesty!

On the OP's side, anyone that toughs it out, does eventially get better treatment by a company. It might take a year or two of proving yourself and earning respect, but it does happen. A good dispatcher helps.

The problem is many aren't willing to tough them 1-2 years out and change jobs. They expect special treatment their first year. I don't know about you, but I don't know any job you don't have to work your way up the ladder.

A driver gets a new truck every 4 years on average. You can't tough it out, you'll drive junk all the time. But a trick I've used in the past is when you sign on, if you can't get a newer truck right away, pick the ugliest and oldest truck on the lot. :)

The way you say suck up you make it sound like a bad thing. Yes I do send a link to everything I write to everybody I know and many people I don't. I'm very needy that way. You're right the numbers do not lie. And the companies are very aware of what the driver numbers say. But it amazes me how often they get it wrong when it comes to what these driver numbers mean. They'd better start talking to the drivers to find out.
And finally I do have a backup plan if your wish comes true and USA Truck is no more. I've got an extra USA Truck sticker that I keep at home that I'll slap on the side of my pick up and keep right on truckin. Keeping the dream alive baby!

Yes if you have over two million safe miles they do but if you want the big floppy ears on it it's gonna cost you 5 bucks more. I'm trying to get them to throw those in too. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

I think the current policy with USA is no pooches. But don't let that discourage you. There are a lot of good companies out there that are pet friendly. As for everything else? Amen Brother. The people with the CDLs have all the power in the trucking world. We are in the driver's seat both literally and figuratively. So far we've been using that power to move on whenever we become unhappy with things. And you're right that doesn't work well in any sort of relationship. Personal or business.

Wish I had written this. Road Train Member with over 5000 posts? Whew! I didn't even know there were that many different combinations of words. I'm going to save myself some time and just go back through some of your old posts and just cut & paste. That's got to be easier than all this thinking. It makes my head hurt. Hats off to ya brother.:biggrin_25514:

Yeah I got that right away. I checked out your status, writing style, number of posts and how many thanks you have received before I replied and I knew you were no dummy. How does that becoming a Road Train Member thing work? I'm also trying to figure out how to steal that cool avatar of yours.
