Van can be tough in that area. Ask Rollin about the past couple days
.
But, if you are willing to be out more than a week at a time you take the pinch coming out of NC, run the good lanes then can do decent going home.
Flatbed will have ups and downs but even the down will be at the average van rate.
So depends on what you want to do and what you are willing to do.
Michigan is not as bad as NC in my opinion as you are sitting near a good freight area for vans.
And any O/O that is willing to adjust to freight needs should be able to earn $90k before takes on 2400 miles a week. Just stay away from a mileage based lease. That $.30 less per mile is all profit you are loosing and it takes a lot of extra miles to make that up. That's over $700 a week to the mega carrier or over $30K per year. Most of the guys that I interview have to push near 3000 miles a week to see $60k a year. Some of the better ones may see the 70's on a good maintance year.
Good luck -
I currently pull flatbeds, and honestly would rather stick with them. Thanks for the info.
I hear you loud and clear on the part about taking my time, I don't plan on doing this for a little while, but just wanted to gather some info and opinions in order to make a well informed decision when the right time comes along. I do know this isn't a business that is likely to get me filthy rich, and that's not why I want to get into it. Honestly, I want to eventually make this move because this is what I've wanted to do since I was about 10 years old.
Thank you for the info as well.
Thanks for the info. Like I mentioned earlier, I would like to stay in the flatbed side of things. Good to know about the rates.
