I think this speaks volumes on the drivers out there...Driving over time, preventable and driver's fault...Driving unsafe/hazardous truck, preventable and driver's fault..

But that's only the ones they found. Probably a lot more hiding somewhere. Just give them a while, enough time to close all but one scale, forcing all drivers into that one, and maybe another $2 bil and they might find them... :biggrin_25513:

So you really think that 60% of the commercial vehicles on the road in this country are "unsafe?"

If that's the case, why aren't there hundreds of the so-called "unsafe" vehicles parked in coop lots, shut-down until repaired? Or, more likely, this is really just more government-perpetuated propaganda.

Not at all, I'm just going off the stats provided...Both items are preventable and the driver's fault...

It's not 60% of the CMV's on the road . It's 60% of the trucks selected for inspection . Many of them were likely owned by carriers with poor safety records . They will have INSPECT show up on the PrePass screen in the scalehouse .

Not sure what you mean, aren't driving over hours(blaming the company for it, not just some fudging) and driving an unsafe rig the drivers fault?...

Ever heard of newspapers "sensationalizing" something?

They make claims....it is up to you to sort out the facts.

    Exactly.

It's the same sort of sleight-of-hand that they play during all of the safetly blitzes. These statistics do not represent the population of ALL commercial trucks. Just the hand-picked sample that appear to have the highest chance of providing the DOT with a ticket and revenue. Now those drivers certainly are responsible for the violations - and no one disagrees. But to publish something like "six out of ten trucks are unsafe" based on a prejudiced sample is completely misleading and a statistically false conclusion implying that there is a 60% chance that you personally are some kind of demented outlaw. This crap is picked up by the press, and is used to tar the entire industry. Since it came from a LEO, it is parroted by personal-injury attorneys in court rooms, and it is used by the no-nothings at the federal DOT to concoct a career-furthering reason to continue to over-regulate the industry.
