That $5 footlong is still patronizing a truckstop.
Truck stops are losing money in some areas because truckers are finally realizing they don't have to pay $6 for a can of shaving cream when they can find a Walmart with truck parking and buy it for $2.99

Parking for free in a free parking area makes one a freeloader?

A truck stop is a business and I've seen more of them with abandoned parking fee booths than active ones. I would guess they determined it wasn't profitable to man the booth 24/7.

I buy fuel everyday and get home every night. So since I buy something but don't stay that means in your theory (OP) the truck stop owes me something more??? Oh no I think I see a future occupy rally at the local Pilot.

It's simple. Most truck stops are large companies. The day of the mom and pops are almost gone. Almost every company driver out there has to fuel at one type of TS or another buy company policy. So if I buy stuff from any of there stores I'm going to park at any whenever I feel like it.

    Freeloader???????

I guess we are all FREELOADERS, no one can say they've never pulled in to a truckstop in the middle of the night and parked ( if there is room) jumped in the bed got up a few hours later and took of without going inside and spending a dime. A truckstop is a business, a business usually has a business plan, hence the high prices inside, the price to park is already built in to the 6 dollar can shaving cream or 2 dollar bottled water. These prices cover us FREELOADERS and the oversize loads, and people just parking for the weekend while they go home. If some feels so bad about parking somewhere with out paying just walk end buy a stick of .25 cent gum hand them a twenty and tell them to keep the change. FREELOADERS Geezzzz

Personally I like to patronize the mom and pop truck stops that are left. Kinda like the few owner operators like myself left. I have no doubt, in a short time there will only be the big name truck stops and company drivers but until then, I like to take advantage of the big companies and patronize the little guys.

Those in favor of truck stops charging parking fee's will whistle a different tune when have to start shelling out cash every night out of their own pocket because no company will pay for that expense to park their truck and will tend to start getting expensive after a while. Aren't we broke enough as it is? Even those that do charge for parking have the same insanely jacked up rates as the other guys across the street with free parking and both lots are still full of pot holes!
