The holidays are coming up. Thanksgiving is two days away. I would like to know how people are paid where you work for a holiday. Do they pay at all? Is there extra pay if you are working on the holiday? If so, do you volunteer to work on the holiday for the extra money?

    Happy Thanksgiving to all

I get 8 hours of my regular hourly rate. I will be spending it with 2 of my kids since they will be spending Christmas with there mom. This is a real blessing for me since I use to work for a BFI and couldn't afford to take holidays off. Oh wait, they did reimburse your Thanksgiving dinner up to $10 if you faxed in the receipt.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I wish every driver could be home to enjoy.

My affiliate owner pays for the major holidays . We get extra pay for holiday and Sunday deliveries . When I was single I used to work holidays so another driver could spend the time with his family . Now that I'm married ...I like being married . :biggrin_2559:
We also get bereavement pay . A few years ago my stepson died . His funeral wasn't on a scheduled work day so I didn't put in a request for bereavement pay . They gave me 2 days bereavement pay anyway .

Well, this guy pays extra for holiday deliveries, and being gone holidays, but for most of them, it is completely voluntary...

I work for Eagle hauling gas. Turkey day, Christmas, and New Years are $75 extra+ regular pay. They are my regular work days.

In my pvt. fleet days , yes Billy. 8 to be off, double if I worked to 8 and double and a half after 8....

And yes I traded with other married men for the "call" on Thanksgiving and Christmas and vacations. Single guys usually jumped up for the cash and I did too early on when it didn't matter. $100 extra was paid to the senior man ( like me ) to backup ( telephone ) the jr. guys if they got in a bind on a blend etc.

I am not working on thanksgiving, I am on my home time.

I don't think we get extra pay if we do, but I do know if you work on thanksgiving, you can swing by an operating center and get a free thanksgiving turkey dinner. :biggrin_255:

Getting some good responces here. just want to see if it is justified or worth it to give up your family time to make extra money. Or do you have to give up family time at all. I imagine some go into work for a few hours and spend the rest of the time at home with family. nothing wrong there.

Just depends on what's important to each person, and their financial situation I guess.
