Maverick: Want to hear why people are quiting

    Maverick seems to be an good starter company, but that seems to about it for me. Some say their turnover is low, but I think thats only if you put them in the same class as Swift.

    I'll probably leave due to low miles. I'm in the flatbed division and I know how to maximize my 14hr clock. Still, I only average 2050 mi. a week. Thats laughable for other drivers. I live near the heart of steel hauling, so I don't know what the problem is.

    I see Maverick treating their drivers with the most seniority the worst, and many have left. I would love to hear their side of the story and where they ended up.

    don't know anything about flatbed, never done it, but(and I may be wrong) don't flat bed drivers generally average less miles than a dry van driver due to tarping/strapping/securing loads? And don't they get paid for that?

    Serious, that was my impression(again I could be wrong).

    True, load securement takes time and there is a small pay $10-$20 for tarping. But many of my co-workers and drivers for other companys are claiming 2500+. I know people talk a lot of crap, but for a small few, I can actually verify the claim. If I'm going to stay otr, I at least want the money!

    One thing has hurt flatbed for the last few years is due to economy there's not a lot of construction of buildings and homes which flatbeds carry a whole lot. Ex.shingles , fabricated buildings and so forth.

    Not to discredit your post but I work in a "shingle" plant currently and we cant make the crap fast enough, there's a 10 year shortage of the product to date. I would believe the fladbed business has been hurt by the lack of building due to the economy. But thats just my opinion.

    I was just basically in general speaking. Building materials will always be needed but when the housing boom busted,that did put a dent in flatbed business.

    The shingle industry is 1 of the few "construction" businesses that aren't hurt as bad as the actual building and construction side mainly due to re shingling homes and businesses. A lot of the shingles get paid by insurance due to storm damage or if lucky enough a home improvement load. The other is siding and the same reasons.

    Because 2011 was a stormy year the rebuilding of say Joplin and the work still in New Orleans is a big boost to flat bedding and the construction business even though not a good reason.

    The reason why so many truckers are leaving Maverick because the grass is not greener on the other side.......in fact it just sand. Maverick is full of office politics and backstabbers.

    2050 miles hell i would of been happy with that when I worked there last year I went 9 weeks and never saw over 1500 miles and not home every
    weekend.

    2050 avg. is not terrible for flat bed.
