Thanx for the clue about getting a gps i was wondering how you guys found your way around the desert. I do quite a bit of off-roading since im a big rockhound and ive seen roads going everywhich way sometimes. i can just imagine trying to do that at night when you cant see your way back to the highway! Not a good scenario specially with a big rig ! Are you gonna go with the etrex 10 or 20?

something about getting my employee number late and then blah blah blah and then blah blah blah.......i'll get my money eventually.

yeah, its just hard to do that with a trainer on board who's cold or maybe taking a snooze. I'll get it figured out when i'm on my own....most likely a little power nap will do the trick.

i got the etrex 20 today and it sucks balls. Ugh, completely user UNFRIENDLY and i am taking the #### thing back asap. I'll just use my garmin nuvi to get me to the lease entrances and water stations and find the locations on a paper map when i get there.

Garmin is a horrible company for not providing enough or clear information on how to use some of these products. They should have videos or something because their manuals dont scratch the surface as far as what these devices can do or how to fix certain things that arise. Their customer support takes 45 minutes to speak to someone and i'm not going to deal with it this time.

I'll admit the garmin nuvi is pretty darn simple to operate but this etrex 20 is a nightmare and i cant believe a company who basically speacializes in these devices could leave their customers beating their brains out.

I DO NOT RECOMEND ETREX 10 OR 20 OR ANY OTHER SIMILAR PRODUCT FROM GARMIN. I WASTED #### NEAR A WHOLE DAY DEALING WITH THIS PRODUCT. iT SUCKS. IT SUCKS FROM THE VAGUE EXPLANATIONS ALL THE WAY TO THE BUTTON FUNCTIONS WHICH ARE VERY UNATURAL.

If anyone has ever used one, please tell us what you thought, thanks.

i also bought a strong digital spotlight and a small pair of binoculars. They both work great and will come in handy when looking for a lease site in the middle of no where. I bought a industrial type rain suit and i also bought a long rain proof poncho. The poncho is great and it fits comfortably over my big jacket. I also bought some water proof boots that slip on with no laces. I had to try on a few different pairs till i found the ones that felt comfortable, yet didnt feel like they would slip off your foot when that mud tries to suck you down.

Except for the lame gps, i feel pretty good about the stuff i bought today. I'm going to buy a magnifying glass tomorrow so i can read these paper maps, i cant see ####, i need glasses.

ha ha i thought of that but i dont think so! Ok, so i took the etrex back and in the process, i discovered how to leave a trail on my garmin nuvi, it works perfect for what i need. This makes me very happy. Garmin support said i couldnt do it, so garmin support is incompetent.

oh yeah, bought a magnafying glass too.

If anyone has a nuvi and wants to track their route off road and then save it:

Got to tools, then settings, then map, then trip log and set it to "show" and then you will leave a blue trail where ever you go. When you reach your destination, then save it to favorites and name it and you will now be able to follow that trail even if its on top of mount everest.

......and make sure your navigation route process is set to "faster time" and not "off road" like the dummies at garmin told me. Setting it to off road screwed it up even more.

ok, got to go to work here in a bit. i been on the go all day and it was better than sitting in the motel and watching the liberal programming box. see ya guys!

Go to Williston, ND. Say if you don't have a job there, it's because you don't want to work. They're making $100,000/year up there. Would've gone myself, but couldn't take the chance, this time of year, of them not hiring felons.

thats sort of true but you also have to calculate how much it costs to live up there as well. Its not about how much a particular place is paying, its about how much you can save. I guess if you have an rv, then youre set.

Glad you got the GPS worked out. Sucks Garmin's customer service isn't better. Especially when you don't have a whole lot of free time to begin with, wasting time getting wrong answers from the people who should know better would be pretty irritating.

Where are you getting your supplies, San Angelo? I've driven past Sonora on the 10 a few times and although I never stopped off there, it doesn't seem like there is much there.

Any idea when you will get out on your own?

I agree 100% when I call and hear one bed rooms for $450 a month 700ft^2 I know I made the right choice to go for Texas. I will make enough to take care of both places and still save some money. Till I get the family down to the Dallas Suburbs. Maybe West Plano or McKinney, or Frisco.
