I was employed with this company for ten monthsout of thier Missoula, MT yard, they force dispatch. If you dont shut up and do not do what your told for any reason you are punished by sitting for extended periods of time. I made a complaint and asked for another dispatcher then only made $300 in two weeks. My wife and I finally had enough and even though I returned the truck and loaded trailer to the missoula yard a full day before delivery they still reported a negitive mark on my driver report ruining my chance for employment with any other company for at least six months. My expeirance with Decker was very poor treatment of thier drivers after the hooking you into driving for them. I felt like it was alot of false promises and I would have been much better off having never worked for them.
Decker Ft.Dodge, IA is BAD NEWS!

Never quit under dispatch. Your only damaging your employability.

As a company driver you drive their truck moving their loads as with any other company. If you were driving my truck and I tell you to pick up a load and delivery it and you refuse I would fire you. I can see why they grew tired of you as an unreliable driver that turns down loads and gave them to reliable drivers and made you sit. It is not rocket science. You mention their false promises but what about yours, to deliver their freight as you signed up to do. I know a lot of decker drivers, you couldn't stand in their boots.

ERRRR Forced dispatch? What is this Forced dispatch you speak of?
Are or should I ask were you an O/O leased on with Decker?
This BS Hoax or Rumor called forced dispatch is just that!
You are a company driver.
You are told to go someplace you go!
It's their truck and trailer.
They hired you to drive a truck not decide you don't go some place that you think you don't like.
But this quote from your first paragraphshows us you have some warped idea of how trucking and driving someones equipment should be your way? As Dryver put it; you come up with that with me and you'll be walking from wherever you were! I'd fire you so fast that you would think it was a forced dispatch!
BUT? Whats this thing called forced dispatch? You are taking this companies money correct? You are sitting in something that costs more than most peoples homes or trailers at the park.
Because you do NOT own the tractor there is Nothing called forced dispatch! You get a load you go there. It's no different driving in NYC than Chicago or LA except for the tolls. The company pays them! The roads are all the same. There are idiots in every other vehicle out there. The loading docks are the same. Some tight some with all the room in the world.
But FORCED? No that can't be true! It is their truck! You agreed to drive their truck. Why would you think you have any say where their truck goes?
Then to quit under dispatch. Bad move no matter how you think they are forcing you.
If you had quit in the smart and correct way of giving a 2 week notice you would not have that slam on your DAC/HireRight report that you now have along with the companies wording of "he's under the idea that he has control of where our trucks need to go or has some funny idea of something called "forced dispatch."
To all of you out there. This thing called forced dispatch is a hoax just like the one of calling the US Marshall's when at a scale or dock or have a police officer behind you. It's something made up to screw with you and see how gullible you are! If it's a company truck then it goes where the owner wants it to go even if you have to put it on a ferry! If it's your truck then you can pick where you want it to go.
Another thing is why do you NOT want a load that will put money in your pocket? Are you making so much you think you can turn down a load? You've been "punished" so it seems that HEY! A LOAD! YEAH! MONEY! But it's not where I want to go as if that really freaking matters! Just drive the stupid thing to wherever, and get PAID MONEY for the run!
UNLESS they told you when you hired on that if you don't like a certain town we'll not "force" you to go. There are a few of those but I bet you have to wait for someone to die before they hire!
I wonder if it was a NYC load? I used to laugh my arse off at our L/P drivers at my last good job! that stupid saying of "I Don't Do NYC!" they sang I loved because it meant another high paying load for me! The morons whoud scream about having to go there but because they were L/P they didn't have to be "forced" to go! They always had a choice of loads which was fine with me! I just could not turn down that $150. to cross a stupid bridge (which a lot of companies pay as they get it in the contract because of the old NYC dangers) or the $25 for the first dock, $35 fore the second, $45 3rd, $50 for the rest except for the last. That was the freebie!
After having to go on FMLA and they got the loads after finding out how much a mere company driver made they fell all over themselves for those loads.
The sad thing was every one of the drops were scheduled overa 2 day period. Yes that meant staying somewhere in Brooklyn, on Manhattan or LI! . BUT these want to be owners thought that they could force the receivers to take the loads when they got there! They could not even think of not staying at a truck stop for one night! They made the company lose the route which was a very profitable one! Heck I got calls for the longest time while getting treatments form MY customers wanting to know when I was going to be back! Wanna be owners screwed up a "forced dispatch load"
Company means take the freaking load! If you do not like it go buy your own truck AND trailer!
Forced dispatch??? ROFLMAO!Dryver Thanks this. -
o boy..... forced dispatch?
I agree with above post.
Consider this: If you get an office job and get told to do something do you refuse? NO.
Or of your a cop: you see someone breaking a law you don't agree with. Do you arrest them? Yes.
Cause its your job.
As much as I hate being told what to do, I do it. I get in the truck and ask were it needs to be. Cause thats my job. Not my truck payment or my business. I would expect my employee to do the same thing. -
Lets get real! complaining to a company is as effective as telling your wife she needs to learn how to cook!
Rollover the Original Thanks this. -
Man,you all need to chill with the comments. This driver is just describing his experience & why he left. While I wouldn't have quit under a load,I definitely wouldn't have stuck around to play along with their office politics just because I'm voicing my frustration over the lack of miles. You folks do remember that is the whole reason why we are out there don't you.The idea of going broke despite having a job doesn't sit well with my FAMILY,& THEY are the only ones I OWE myself to.Glad to hear how some of you distinguished gentlemen are committed to your companies 1,000,000%,but not me.I do what I'm told when I'm told to do it,but I will not give my time away for free.I don't blame the driver for quitting the way he did,who knows how long he played their games all in the sake of getting some miles.Good luck driver & I hope you find a good company that's focused on making real money so that their drivers can eat too.

you drivers are reading alot into his post he never did say what the reason was!!!!!!!!!!!!! there are a couple good reasons for turning down a load you should know that give the guy a break!! also I have worked for 2 companies as a company driver with a no forced dispatch policy was trated good & made money at both of them. you also dont know the exact details of the load he dropped, a little more imformation could have cleared alot up,

????? Reasons to turn down a load?
Yes if he owns the truck and trailer.
Yes if he's sick and sick enough to bring FMCSA rules into effect of not driving when unable to drive safely.
Yes if he's libel to be arrested in that state for some silly reason or he's been banned from a shipper or receiver for throwing a pallet through a window at the dock foreman or some silly reason like that.
Yes if he's scared of a city. AHHH Nope he needs to get over it and go to that city and grow a pair.
And that's all I can think of if he drives a company or someones truck he hired on to drive.
Don't like an area?
Go buy your own truck and use the broker boards and dispatch your self where you want to go. That simple. Takes all the stress off thoses shoulders! -
rollover I agree with you for the most part and enjoy your posts, also would have deliverd the load unless his dispatch okd dropping. ive always givin notice when changing jobs belive thats the right thing to do, he never said he turned down a load just coplained about it also gave him benifit of the doubt with his stated 15yrs experiance, also even when i worked for companies i mentioned i took alot of loads no one else would simply because only made money when wheels were turning , by doing so kept busy when otheres were sitting. you have a great holiday weekend,
