I was out of trucking for 3 years and almost every company i called wanted 3 months exp in the last 12 months. After alot of research,I narrowed my choices down to FFE and Central refrigerated as the 2 companies I was qualified for, without having to go back to school.
I went FFE orientation after a 3 day miserable greyhound bus ride.I didnt have proper rest and no decent meal,so i failed my physical which took place the following morning.
I got sent home and was told to get a doctors release in order to return, but after two 3 day horrible greyhound bus rides.I didn't wanna go back,so I called Central Refrigerated...they told me I had to take care of an outstanding parking ticked, but I was unemployed and didn't have the funds.
After reading this board and hearing all the Werner horror stories..I hesitant to call them, but they were my last choice.I filled out an online app and got called the same day to setup orientation.
Orientation was a breeze but training kinda sucked.I was a 70 hr student but it turned into a month because my trainer milked it for team miles. After training I got my truck and been running hard ever since.
I always deliver in a timely manner which makes my FM look good so I'm rewarded with never having to sit and wait for loads. My pay has always averaged $700 wk Now I'm on a dedicated acct.
I was only gonna stick around just to get my 3 months experience and go elsewhere, but as long as they keep treating me good I'm sticking around.
Happy with Werner

Glade to see a happy Werner driver,I hope things stays good cuz I never meant a happy Werner driver yet.If they treat you well I would stay as long you can but don't be shock if your there after a year or two things may change, they like to push the guys who been there 2-5 years off the trucks so they put a newbie in cuz those newbies get the crappy pay.But anyway good luck with Werner keep us inform.
Iceberg508 Thanks this. -
700 a week? before taxes and insurance? I sure as hell hope not. Thats less then if you got a minim wage job and worked some ot.
700 after taxes med and 401 k aint that bad for a company man. It is way low if you ask me. But it is also way better then being unemployed.
I guess it all depends on what kind of situation you came from, if this is good or not.
I personally would get a local job and be home every night if thats all I was offered. But If I lived in bfe and couldn't get a local job or had no hope of a different industry, well then...this wouldn't sound so bad. -
The thing with being gone from home for $700 a week. An average joe can buy a $5500 zero turn lawnmower (about the price for driving school) get 2 jobs a day at $40 a yard and be home with his wife or another truckers wife for 16 hours a day, get out of bed the next morning grab a big breakfast, drink some coffee and watch Good Morning America. Wait til the grass dries, pullhis lawnmower to the store, grab a six pack of beer, and mow grass for two hours. Take a 2 hour lunch at Hooters then go to the next yard and finish his day. $80 x 7 = $560..... $700 after taxes and toll money they never paid you is $490 but as long as your happy

I gotta crawl before I walk.I have less than a year exp and Werner were the company to take me without jumping through hoops and hurdles.Nevada has one the country's highest unemployment rates so getting a local job is very competitive without the experience.
Nevada has no grass most homes have no yards. My whole point is that my experience with Werner so far aint as bad as I thought it would be.I've met other driver who been here for years and love it.I'm just trying to get the experience a local job requires and Werner's just not that bad.rodknocker Thanks this. -
Forget about my post. I was just being me. I started with a company something like yours and have no regrets.
-
easy as that. I would be happy with them also if I was in your shoes. keep your head up and stay positive. You will be good to go in a few years. -
yea, you gonna cut alot of grass in the winter. you must be joking.
-
this crap gets old....you go buy a friggin lawnmower.
