I recommend switching to eTrade. They refund ATM charges and have none of their own.

I try to start with a decent amount of cash before I hit the road. Then I keep the ATM receipts and deduct the fee on taxes.

If you're going to WalMart use a debit card and get cash back . No fee there .

Shoot, try currency exchange. On my visit to England in '95, I had to pay 10% surcharges to cash a travellers check

That's how I did it; stop at the Evil Empire, get groceries and max out the cash back.

I had to educate my wife about that.

She went to Walmart and bought some stuff.

Then went to the ATM to get money.

    Got a fee.

Also have to make sure your bank doesn't have a limit on the number of ATM transactions in a month or they'll charge you a fee. Transactions at Walmart's check out can still be considered ATM transactions by some banks.

I think we would run out of money before we hit our banks limit.

    Lilbit Thanks this.
