What kind of permits? There are many.
-
Permits and baseplate are costing me $1,700.00 a year and pocket change. (Last time I looked). It's most likely going to be more.
-
I forget what I paid for my NY permit but if it was $100 I would be surprised. Base plates are going to vary depending on state and then once you have some miles it will be based on the miles you run in each state.
OOIDA can give you a good estimate with the exception of a few states like IL that sames to think that offering an estimate violates some national security law. -
The $6400 is only a estimate after they get done with base plates, fuel taxes, tolls & fines.
Have them on my IRP just in case, but never go there.
& to the point of IL estimates, the good state employees have no sense of humor about it. They sort of look at you as your money is theirs anyway. -
so,if you have all 48 and not exactly going through every state very often,my question is this : once you prove no miles ran,do states have a fee you would still have to pay?

Hi all.. i have been a company driver for awhile now and i am now venturing into getting trucks up and going for a currently established business. What i need to find out now is a list of all the permits i need to get for my new trucks to operate legally in the states of Utah and Nevada for sure and possible more later on.. i know all the basics like state Permits and IFTA. i know i need my US DOT Numbers and all that.. but if any of you know a good permit list that you can give me so i don't miss anything. (We will be hauling produce)
Thanks all. Happy Trails!

Recently set up my own authority and here is the list I came up with:
-Register for DOT #
-Register with FMCSA for "New Entrant" audit
-Register for MC#
-Started employee files and records keeping, and associated requirements for FMCSA
-Enroll in random drug testing program for all employees including yourself
-File Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax with IRS
-Get Insurance per FMCSA and submit on form MCP 65
-Register with IRP in your base state and add states you anticipate running through (know I need trip permits for rest), get plates and cab card in truck.
-Register with IFTA and get stickers on truck.
-Register with the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR)
-File OP-1 (Motor Property Carrier and Broker Authority) with FMCSA
-BOC-3 (Designate Process Agent) with FMCSA
-Get graphics with company name, city and state, DOT#, IFTA stickers
Register with the following if you are running there :
Oregon- temporary mileage pass before you enter the state, or post a $2000 bond and file monthly- (No permit, $520 fine)

New Mexico weight/distance tax-

New York HUT-

Kentucky KYU#-

All not hard to do, but there are one stop shop services that can set it all up for you if you don't like jumping through bureaucratic hoops. I have set up several companies in the past and about pulled my hair out getting my authority as there is not one place to go of all of the information that you will need to get established...except this board!
Good Luck!volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
