    It's good for 5 years..

I agree it's all a racket to take money from drivers. Not much different from any other racket the government runs. I like how they make the claim to need income tax revenue from citizens, yet a bunch of huge banks can bet everything on risky derivitives, lose, and then go to the goverment for a handout. The government creates multi-ga zillions out of thin air then the banks/banking executives all get free money. The whole system is set up to keep you down fees, taxes, etc. You try playing around with derivitives and see if anyone hands you free money. What a sad corrupt joke this whole country has become. They are trying to pass a bill this week that allows the military to arrest and detain indefinitely any American citizen anywhere in America or abroad and the citizen does not have a right to go before a civilian court. The whole phony war on terror has come full circle and now the guns are going to be turned on us from our own soldiers heroically protecting our freedom.

I think it took less than 2 weeks for me to get my TWIC card back once I applied and paid the tax. It can take several weeks, depending on the size of the office and how busy they are at the time you apply. I have heard some taking as long as 6 weeks.

I have to drive 50 miles for hazmat background checks . The nearest TWIC office is over 100 miles away but is only 20 minutes from one of our terminals and they let me use a company pickup to go there .

Renewed my TWIC today. $100 and change with HazMat. I forgot my passport in my pickup, so I was going to use my SS card for 2nd form of ID. The officer told me to go get my passport as it would come back faster with it than any other 2nd ID form. When I initially got the TWIC, it took less than a week to come back, having HazMat and using a passport. I have a unique last name, its not John Smith, so I believe that has to help the process as well.

With the hazmat check get the thing very close to or just after the renewal date of your CDL. I got my Hazmat background check and just like the freaking stupidity of the gooberment they stick to the 5 year date so that instead of it expiring with my CDL on my birthday in Oct the stupid hazmat expired in April! No one ever told us about that little flaw did they! Get the thing so you get the most use out of both!

Now here is the funny thing about all this insane and useless gooberment crapola called back ground checks which are supposed to clear you to haul stuff that can be used in a terrorist kind of way. Try to get on a flight with a up to date HOMELAND USELESS BACKGROUND CHECK! You get grouped or X-Rayed and do the 20 stupid questions dance! Here we are holding a CDL with that X endorsement that requires us to pay to get checked to prove we aren't going to kill 3000 Americans and the IDIOTS called HOMELAND SECURITY and TSA can't get their ducks to dance to the same drummer! We still get checked by rent a cops at the terminals. What's the freaking use of me having to pay $150 freaking dollars to haul hazardous materials, be vetted by the same group that controls all that crapola, but it's not good enough to get on a domestic flight? How do the Air Marshall's get on board? What good is Homeland security anyway? Another moronic gooberment screw up paid for with our taxes!

Homeland Security is a joke. It is just another government agency that we didn't need.

You get to pay for another background check when you renew the TWIC and hazmat. I think that once should be enough.

    SHC and volvodriver01 Thank this.
