Cost me $30 give or take to e-file. Which I would have to drive 90 miles one way and waste more than half a day going to Nashville. Well worth it imo. Google e-file 2290 there are lots of different websites who offer the service.

Chattanooga would probably be closer and not as busy as Nashville. -
I have a little bit of a unique situation. I bought my truck and set it up as a lease purchase with the buy out being $1 at the end of the term. The title and loan are still in the name of the previous owner. I took possession of the truck at the beginning of September. Should me and him just pro rate the 2290 tax payment for the time I have had the truck and he is responsible for the rest? The truck is registered, licensed, and runs out of TX if that makes a difference. Thanks for the help in advance.

The IRS doesn't care who pays the 2290 as long as it gets paid. I would not worry about the small amount of time the owner has had the truck since renewal. If you got the truck in September then you are only talking about a couple of months and that is less than $100. If the truck was not on the road in July until September, you may even be able to pro rate the 2290 tax when it is paid. I would check with the IRS to see what they say. Today is the last day to pay the 2290 without paying a penalty. I think the penalty is $50 plus interest until paid. It doesn't make any difference where you live when it comes time to pay the 2290. It is the same for all states. By the way, the tax is usually paid in the name of the registered owner. Again, I would check with the IRS and ask them. If you have an office near you then that would be the best place to ask your questions. You will need the complete vin number from the truck in order to pay the 2290.

And dont forget your stamp!!!It was easy for me because my sister works there... I got the VIP treatment no standing in line.... -
I did mine online with one of the providers on the irs.gov page. I had my watermarked schedule 1 back in about a half an hour. Cost $32, but between gas and 3 hours of my time at the IRS office, I came out way ahead. I can only imagine what the line is like today.

The IRS building is only 10 min from house...

It's 30 miles for me via toll roads. One year I waited 4 1/2 hours and another, I showed up at 1pm and was told to come back the next day. You'd think I'd learn not to pay it at the last minute. Anyway, $32 was a bargain for me and in another thread here there's a company doing it for $10. Hard to beat that

I just got back from paying my 2290. There were a lot of people waiting to talk to an agent, but I only had 2 people in front of me. It didn't take long to get in and out. The guy at the front desk said that they had over 200 people coming in to pay their 2290. A friend of mine paid $35.00 to a service to file his electonically. If I didn't have an office so close I might pay someone to do efile it for me, too. I don't see why we can't file it on line ourselves rather than paying a service. I suppose someone with the government is getting a kickback. Oops....did I say that?!
