Hello all I want to be honest with everyone I am a very dedicated family man. I got my CDL last year exactly and went to TMC but got sent home for sustaining concussions while serving our country in Iraq sorry but I thought TMC was a military friendly company #### no anyway thats my venting, so then I went to USX and only completed 1 week with a trainer due to some very serious family emergencies. So now that I am trying to get back into trucking I have to take a 40 hour refresher course with my cdl school so I start monday. Now for the real question, my wife is concerned because I have been home with my children since the accident happened now she knows about the home on weekends thing but is a little unsure because it is trucking. How should I handle this with the companies do you think they will be understanding with my situation or will they tell me oh well this trucking. Also how do you guys handle your family situations?

with the right company regular hometime shouldn't be an issue. FWIW, I'm married 20 years, with 2 children, I get home every weekend and sometimes thru the week.

Most of the OTR companies are going to require you to be out weeks at a time. Depending on where you live, there may be some regional opportunities or even local opportunities that will have you home weekends or even during the week.
Likely you will need to do OTR for a period, at least a year, before these local opportunities open.
If you live near port or rail facilities that ship intermodel, see who's running most of that. Schneider? Swift? Check with them.
Look at LTL carriers. They are often home more often. Line haul work.
Good luck. -
If you want to get into LTL, give me a shout!!

There really is no reason that you shouldnt be able to be home every weekend, not like your in a horrible freight market.

Not sure if you have enough recent experience but check into Eastern Freightways located on Black Horse Lane in North Brunswick NJ. They are the truckload subsidiary of NEMF and normally get home each weekend.
They have recently added a flatbed division and NEMF has a terminal in Pennsuaken Nj so you would have plenty of opportunities to get into a local gig at some point.
Can't hurt to check them out and at least make a phone call. Let me know if I can help further. -
thanks man im gonna look them up monday
