i think you said it , there not a mainstream engine , just like the benz engine , maybe i wasnt as lucky to see actual problems while i was at that terminal ? but the worse problem i seen with a volvo engine was the grid heater cracked and broke .... and the starters attached to them , there where alot of volvos that had starter issues

personally if i had better knowledge of the volvo engine i wouldnt mind buying a truck with one they had good power, along with the mbe engine..... but i worked at cummins so thats my prefference ... even if the egr coolers are junk , along with the egr valve lol .

Why would you want to pay over $1700/month for a 4 year old truck? Not only that, but run the truck for fuel money? If you get your own financing you can get a lot more truck for that kind of money. For that much payment you could almost afford to make payments on a brand new truck. You can find a good truck for a lot less money than you will pay for this Pete. It isn't about running down the road for fuel money. The idea is to earn a decent living, preferably an above average living.

I guess I am somewhat experienced. I would buy what I am spec'ing out right now..... a 2013 FL glider with Detroit remanned pre emissions 500 hp series 60, 13 spd. I can get one heck of a lot of truck for a little over $100,000. No Federal Excise Tax. Sure, can't run in California, but I don't go west of I-25 anyway. 3 yr/300K warranty on engine, standard FL warranty on chassis, and 5 yr/750K warranty on rears.

And while he's at it read this entire thread. '08-'10 Cummins are the worst money pit of an engine to be avoided.

Well,, I can't resist this.. I have a really good accountant and after owning an "old" truck, classic with a S60, and a new truck 2011 Crapcadia, I did make more money at the end of the year, in my pocket money, with the new Crapcadia, even with all the downtime... I told him he was lying but he showed me... I hate it when I'm wrong... He thinks I will experience the same with the 07 387, the newer trucks are better on fuel, service intervals are farther apart, and warranty is real nice. He has lots of o/o's and the guys that buy new every 3-4 yrs all TAKE HOME, more money than the guys with the older trucks... Did I mention I HATE being wrong.. I am going to try valiently to prove him wrong this next year but if I don't ill prob order a new truck next fall. That all said it WiLL NOT BE A CRAPCADIA! Great ride, very quiet, DD15 pulls like a beast, fuel mileage great, great truck when its working, but when the CAB CAM acts up, and it will, its a very annoying P.O.S. I don't recommend one. I think you either spend the big dough and get anew truck ONLY if you have enough down to get the pmt schedule over 4 yrs and pmy less than $2200 month OR and older truck over 2 to 2.5 yrs with pmt under $1200, The problem with a truck only a couple years old is you still end up with a big payment and you don't get the first couple years of expence free running to pad your escrow acct. I wanted a new Volvo 780 but after the Crapcadia just couldn't bring myself to do it.

I am doing well with NO payments on my equipment. My maintenance is not too bad. It is certainly much less than making payments. A few years ago I spent over $11,000 on maintenance on one truck, but that was unusual. And since that time my maintenance costs have mostly been tires and that would happen whether new or used. I have no doubt that you can make a case for buying a new truck. I just don't like making big truck payments. Using your figure of $2,200/month payment, that comes out to over $26,000/year just for payments. I could buy a good used truck for that payment and pay my base plates, permits, UCR, 2290, insurance and still have enough for a good steak. And I would have a clear title and would not have to worry about making payments.

I agree BUT, add 1 to 1.5 mpg if you order a good aero with the right drivetrain, plus the additional write off, and presto, you take more home with the new truck. He showed it to me by showing me the last year I had my Classic, I didnt have any major problems with it that year just regular stuff you run into with an older higher mileage truck, and my first year with the Crapcadia, with the old truck pm's every 20,000 kms with the crapcadia 80000 kms that's 4 pms at $250ish, compared to one on the Crapcadia, (I never left it 80, 60 was the most) they get away with this as the new engines run so much cleaner. Anyways, he showed me, I took home more with the new truck and payment verses old truck and no payment. I arguedn but the numbers don't. He is recommending I go get a new truck now, I'm going to keep my 387 for now and see how it goes.
But his "I told you so" is really gonna suck......

You could just work less with a paid off truck and net the same amount of money without as much wear and tear on your equipment. Or, you could take the difference and invest it in real estate or some other type of asset rather than buy something that has a high monthly payment and begins depreciating the minute you turn the key on the showroom floor.
