You really can't beat the price...zero. The only problem is that you'll have to stay with the one employer for about 3 years. It sounds easy on this end of it, but if you read the forums, you'll find that a huge percentage of new-hire drivers can't even make the first year. Making three? One would seem to have more luck winning the Boston Marathon as a non-runner. But you can't beat the price. All you have to do is stay 3 years.

$5,995 plus interest depending on your current credit rating when you sign the contract and 30-36 months to pay it back in full without further financial obligation.

This is also a function of CSA 2010 which assigned points to both the driver and the company when things go wrong. They want to know where you are on the learning curve, to learn their way, and to do it their way, regardless of experience or credentials. There are companies - FFE, for example - that require every driver applicant to go through their full CDL training school including testing, though no CDL is issued to those who hold one. Their SMS rating was so bad it's one of the changes they made to control the drivers on the road.
Regs demand or limit one thing, the insurance companies demand or limit other things, and the companies make changes to meet those demands. Or go out of business. -
ok so just to understand, You go through their training school, then when you start driving, they will take out 50.00 a week for 30 - 36 months, but if you remain employeed through those 30 - 36 months, your commitment is good to go? I know other companies if you stay with them for a year commitment, your tuition is paid in full, you jump ship befor then, obviously you owe the balance...Am i understanding this correctly?
I don't mind working for someone for awhile, but my long term goal is getting some experience and miles under my belt, then getting a local job where i am home most nights. I don't mind putting in my time, i just want to make sure i know everything before signing any contract, and not going to go with what recruiters say because i have been reading they tend to sugar coat the truth. -
Yeah but if they are taking payments of 50.00 a week, how is that free if you stay 3 years, cause 50.00 a week, x 52 weeks in the year, x 3 years is 7,800 that they take out of your pocket...but if you stay the full three years it is "Zero" as you call it...just wondering which it is? -
You need to ask these questions to the recruiter.
Things have changed over the last year, so we may not have the exact answer.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
Unless you come to them from the Houston Texas Workforce Center...stay the year and there is no cost. I just went through the school at the end of October and that was the deal with the folks from Houston...sigh...I am not from Houston so I will be paying...and the deal I was given is if I stay the year, Stevens will pay half of the cost...so Denalidad your figures in my case are wrong.

In an earlier post, you said you hold a CDL, so you won't go through the Academy. If that is true, none of this applies to you.
-
Well, the recruiter told me i would have to go through their course, cause i haven't driven since 2007, i just wouldn't have to test out to get my CDL since i already have mine.
