99% of all trucking companies read from the same book now. With logs becoming more common etc.. it doesn't do much good to job hop anymore. They've all rolled over to the Feds, or are about to. Best thing to do is build seniority and keep your record clean.

I recently graduated from NTTS in Liverpool, NY. I just passed my DMV road test yesterday after the 4th try. I don't test well aparently. lol I blew them out of the water this time and only lost 10 points. I have a pre hire as a company driver with Stevens and am scheduled for orientation on 1/20/12. Hoping I have made a wise desicion to go with them. Any pointers????????

Yes. Read all 349 pages of the Stevens Transport aviary. It will provide you a wealth of information and some, um, interesting chatting.Need to Roll Thanks this.

Yea, don't waste your time with stevens, try ffeNeed to Roll Thanks this.

Good you got your licence first.
Learn as much as you can with your trainer and get as many backs in as you can. Do not tell your trainer, "thats wrong at school they said this."
I am biased but FFE will starve you to death. -
Plus you will have to go through their entire driver academy whether you have a CDL or not. That will delay your paychecks by 3 more weeks.

I got my start with lisa motor lines (conwell corp all owned by ffe) it alll runs under ffe now but unless they changed things if you got your cdl from a school you go out with a trainer after orientation.. But I can tell you they don't have as many stupid rules as stevens does..

They did, indeed, change things. Their DOT SMS scores tanked and it's one change they implemented this year to address their miserable performance ratings. FFE was one of my first choices until I learned about their CDL training requirement applying to everyone when I contacted them several months ago. Stevens might have more rules, but IMHO they are not stupid. Rules are meant to do something--for Stevens Transport, it's all about compliance and safety. Disobey those rules and find another employer. Those are good rules, in my book.Rattlebunny Thanks this.

FFE is currently in bankruptcy, has sold off their dry vans, and tractors, and freight to Celadon. Their safety score is in the tank, and they would have EOBR's mandated, except for the recent court ruling against EOBR's.
Yes stevens has lots of rules, all because some driver thought they knew better and f'ed up. -
Do you have a link to this bankruptcy story? They got rid of the the dry van division (American eagle) and its alll reefer now under ffe, elogs and new freightshakers coming in.
