I've seen a lot of threads discussing having experience driving in the military and coming out to get a Class A. Also knew some good drivers that were coming out to get their cdl. I understand that the national guard trains truck drivers after basic training but what I'm curious to know is what someone went in with their cdl's?? Training still the same?? I would imagine going into the guard you would do the same training as everyone else you just may be steps ahead. what would be the future of a trucker in the military? my buddies say it's one of the most dangerous jobs and the chances of being deployed into war may be greater. any thoughts?

The trucks supply the troops... no grunts no trucks.
As far as training goes you start at the bottom like everyone else...the army will train you to do things the army way...Wargames Thanks this. -
I dont know about now, But when I got my CDL, i would get a few calls a week from Army Recruiters offering a $30,000 Sign on Bonus to sign up for 4 or more years.....

I'll go back in for 30k signing bonus. Anyone know are they taking 52 year olds?
Wargames and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
i think the age cutoff is like 35, dont quote me on that....could be 45, i know its not very old whatever it is.

I would worry about it to much. You might deploy once but big deal, deployments are kind of fun I think. You will learn the army way but 88M school is only like 4 weeks long in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Its pretty easy and simple being in the National Guard. It does turm in to a second job sometimes tho. I know from June to September of this last year I was home only 3 weeks to to training and going to Minot ND for flood detail.

what kind of duties and schedule would military trucking entail....maybe i should call a recruiter lol

Maybe,
because they are going to be reducing forces in the near future......Wargames Thanks this. -
I really don't like this post. No offense to you Lucray but please tell me what you did in the army. I was active duty and we had a transport unit from IDK some state there but those guys lost about 6 ppl due to injuries or death. If you are in the army you should know not to lie to someone who is trying or thinking about getting in unless you are a recruiter???? Then that is your job. I myself was combat arms(19D) but my secondary was a 88M I didn't do anything on a truck. Deployments are much less then fun and by what Lucray said "I think" please don't listen to his post. Again I have been on 2 deployments I am a 50% disabled vet that had trouble getting into TMC because of my "Disability" or whatever so good luck if you have any more questions feel free to post on here or PM me I check this everyday.
