Yep, it is a brand new motor already assembled with the head. They will reuse your turbo, intake, exhaust, and your sensors. It should also come with a 3yr/300k warranty.

Some longblocks come with new manifolds and water pumps so it may have those, not sure on the 14L.

My S60 was a brand new crate motor and it had EVERYTHING new including a new ECM as well. Maybe you will luck out and get this ;)

    Higgy Thanks this.

If they were trying to reduce Nox emissions, it's likely an experimental or special order build with lower compression, lower boost, more egr, or a combo of the three.

Nox, the emission component that produces a yellow smoggy haze, is reduced by lower combustion temps.

All of the engine manufacturers had to do those rebuilds back in the late 90's. The Lo Nox rebuilds were required by the EPA. Here is a link to a Detroit news letter discussing the Lo Nox.

Yeah, it was 1998 model year 12.7 S60 and it had the Low Nox rebuild done in 2004 at Louisville Freightliner. It went KaBoom on 5/05 on I-94 in downtown Chicago. They put a new "crate" motor in it and that was the last it ever needed worked on :)

Be glad Stoops brought you to their shop. Truck City of Gary sucks!! They are just a big shop in a great location to suck up all the large fleet money they can. O/O's mean zip to them. Two bad experiences with them on my two week old truck in '08 and I'll pay to be towed right past them given the choice. SHC living nearer to them than I ( South Bend area for me ) and maybe using them more, may have nicer things to say about T.C. of Gary.

Well sounds like you lucked out! Payed for an inframe and now your getting a complete longblock. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Me point before was just the simple fact that the mechanic working on it may not have put say a valve retainer on correctly or something of that sort. Just because a motor has this happen right after a major rebuild does not always mean its a defective part. Some of the mechanics out there dont know there *** from a hole in the ground. Even at some of the reputable shops. The new guys have to learn somewhere.

I have never used TC for repairs, I only go there for parts as the guys know me and I pay the same as the big fleets there. I hear their service dept sucks tho. If I can't fix it, I take it to Great Lakes Peterbilt and they have done me no wrong. They do not work on Detroits tho, but they are one heck of a CAT shop ;)

Hi everyone, My update is that my long block won't be here for 3 weeks.... so they say. I agree with Truck City of Gary. I had my accessory drive go out this summer the week before my 94 took a crap. I called stoops to get a price on the part before I paid and the were $150 more than stoops. And both dealers use the same distributors. I called TCG in the price difference, their response " Thats the way it is". BS, I will only go there in emergencies. The whole thing cost over $850.00.
If I had known,(Stoops usually tells me if I can do it myself and talks me through it) when I got there, I could have done the job myself, I'd have done it in their parkinglot, but Stoops didn't tell me until after the mechanic came for the truck. Which BTW he didn't know how to shift well at all. Iyeahyi.
Well have a good day everyone, and I will keep you posted.

Are they going to get you a rental for those three weeks? Seems like they should, although they probably won't.
