Would a 2.5/5ton ex military truck work for hotshot/expediter work?
I have a cdl-a so weight/size is not a issue for me, but when I see people talking technical details I am completely lost.
I would love to hear opinions on this.

NO, it's slow and rides rough. You be better just to take a sledge hammer to the freight that you'd haul.
-
Well that is true, however I figured that was due to the fact that in the military every fool with a license could pretend that the gears were made of rubber. I was wondering if a pro driving his own rig might due better.
-
it was not designd for every day highway use. Maybe local oil field work
-
They make good farm trucks, or logging and off road use. If you've ever passed a slow military convoy, that's their max speed, and fuel mileage is somewhere between terrible and worse.
-
That you even ask this question tells me you haven't Done your homework or any real thinking. You need to do a lot of both!
kwswan Thanks this. -
Exactly, show up at a place to pick up a fragile load and see how long it takes them to stop laughing, then they'll kick you off the lot.
Just so you know, Expediter means FAST, that truck won't fit in that category. -
Not a good Idea at all
I drove those things for years...not to mention they would have one hell of a time trying to pass a DOT inspection....on top of that the armstrong steering, rough as hell ride, no heat, no AC...no nothing...and can we say SLOW!!! I think the fuel mileage was gallons per mile LOL...but seriously its not good..I get better mileage in an 18wheeler..now the new MTVs are faster and have heat and AC that work...but still rough as hell...especially the shifting cause that allison auto tranny shifts haaard as hell

You'd go in the hole just fueling the thing.

Just as fast as a front wheel car pulling a 6,000bls camper, and I seem people do it all the time.Bad bad idea..
