You ever did this? Know someone who did? What all exactly do you know?

There's a company that advertises this very thing, something like, become a freight broker and keep more $$ for yourself. (ad pitched to O/O's).

It also says "Truckers add .50 cents a mile to your bottom line."

What company were you talking about that "advertises that very thing" ?

I don't recall the name, but have seen the ad in Truckers mag and elsewhere. The guy did "seminar" type presentations in various cities on certain dates, fee was around $500. The end result is you would become a broker that has a truck and get the full rate from the shipper without the broker getting a cut.

    this is the guy:

    And here's the drawback-

HAULING freight and BROKERING freight are two different skill sets. Not saying that you can't learn it, and you may be one of those people who know how to shmooze shipping managers, purchasing officers, etc. But, you have to get your foot in the door and convince them that you have the expertise and knowledge and resources to cover their shipping requirements. How can you do this as a one-truck operator? You will need to spend your day phoning, faxing, emailing and "putting out brushfires" while at the same time driving your truck. Not possible.

Depending on what type of equipment you are operating, you may benefit from the use of a dispatcher, instead of a broker. There are some good ones with reasonable fees that have established direct shipper contacts.
