I don't know what's your point but its not us truckers fault well at lease company drivers that recaps are use on trucks. It is true a new truck tire can cost big $$$ but as a company driver I do wish recaps are not use.Its up to the company or the O/O to buy new non recaps tires but it is costly but i'm not a O/O or own a trucking company so I will leave at that.

Virgin Tires cost more. Who is going to pay for it? The general public isnt going to like when the cost of their good goes up.....
Just sayin...Sapper Daddy87 Thanks this. -
They aren't all just from big trucks, cars, pickups lose their casings too. Even virgin tires can lose their casings. HONK is an idiot.
corneileous Thanks this. -
Wonder if the writer thought about telling the motorcycle rider NOT to follow the truck so close.
Sapper Daddy87, gearjammer-2000, corneileous and 1 other person Thank this. -
What about the guy that cant control his camper and it flips over in the middle of the highway? What about the woman putting on lipstick while doing 85mph? What about the 16 year old driver turned around talking to someone in the back seat? What about the 500 pound guy that refuses to wear a belt and shows everyone his ### crack? What about all of the things that are seen everyday that are not liked through the complainers eyes? Theres crap everywhere, it cant be avoided.
Seems like the author of the article had to write "something" for his transportation part of the newspaper. -
Evan pretty much put this guy in his place in the comments (Evan Lockridge has a show on sirius road dog radio called the Lockridge report and he knows his business).
As for the motorcycle driver, I drive motorcycle too and knew long before I was a truck driver to stay far away from the trucks. Its not just the trucks blowing tires, you can't see what may be in the middle of the lane they may just straddle.
I will say it is fun to see the cars crowding and tailgating me scatter like roaches when a trailer tire blows and the shrapnel goes flying. -
Running underinflated is what causes most blowouts, not whether it's a recap or not.
zentrucking, formertaxidriver and HA-MTR Thank this. -
What?
If you paid for the operating costs, recaps would look a lot more attractive. Correctly done by a reputable shop, they are as reliable as a virgin tire.
It takes oil and steel to make a tire casing. And it is an expendable resource. I'm glad to see casings get a second or third life, instead of piling up in already overloaded tire dumps.
Exactly. I ran caps for drive tires for years. Michelin casings, always watched my tire pressure, didn't hit curbs, and then retreaded them again when they needed it. Never peeled a cap on the tractor.
No one mentioned the damage they do to mudflaps and quarter fenders ( or fuel tanks) when they come undone. Not pretty.formertaxidriver and Jfaulk99 Thank this. -
I do pay the operating costs....Recaps still look like JUNK to me.
I ran them once....Never again!
They were on my tractor when I bought it and I took them off within a couple of weeks.
Another reason not to run recaps!
