Do you guys get many Japanese trucks over there,& what do you think of them? We get alot out here in NZ they are very reliable & honest working trucks & have put many trucking companys on there feet. We have Isuzu Nissan Diesel,Hino, Mitsubishi, they all sell trucks in the 2 ton up to 45 ton
range. The are all powered engine wise from 350 hp to 450 hp, although Isuzu has a 530 hp engine at present which is not to bad, but cant compete with a good ole Cummins/Cat or Detroit, most of them have R/R 15 or 18 spd G/boxs. I drove a Nissan 450 twin steer & 4 axle trailer for awhile doing an AUCKLAND TO Nelson return run around 1,200 miles per trip, there was a 3 hr ferry crossing between the nth & sth islands of NZ, I have attached a pic of the truck& the ferry. All our Kenworth, Mack, Volvo trucks are built to Australian specs so the KW & Mack are quite different to yours, the Volvos are all powered by there own engines & G/boxs. Nope we just started getting Mexican Trucks though......LOL
Well actualy we have been getting them for awile now, but now they come with a driver.....LOL

We don't get anything bigger than medium duty Japanese trucks. Mostly forward control Cabovers from Mistubishi-Fuso, Isuzu (also rebadged as GMC/Chevrolet W series), Hino and UD Trucks (Nissan). Nifty little trucks IMO, especially for tight urban corners. In the smaller truck models, Isuzu/GM offers gasoline fueled V8 engines as an alternative to the Isuzu built turbodiesels.
While Hino sold cabovers in the past, Hino now sells a conventional truck here in the US, I don't know if it's sold anywhere else.

They used to sell Hyundai trucks badged as "Bering" here but the enterprise folded in 2001 when Hyundai pulled the rug out from under Bering and made a deal with Daimler-Chrysler. Bering sued DC and Hyundai claiming breach of contract and made an out of court settlement with both.
