Oil companies have been leasing mineral rights on thousands of acres in south-central Kansas, where they have begun drilling wells using horizontal hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking,” a technique that has drawn scrutiny from the Environmental Protection Agency and other states.

They've been finding quite a bit of natural gas in eastern OH, PA, WV, and NY for a few years now, it's super busy up this way, lots of sand to be hauled.

Is some of this around the Great Bend area? I go out there every day, and see a lot of oil rig trucks running around.

I guess not, it appears to be down around Wellington. Also I don't like the last part of that report..

They just can't get enough regulations.

There a lot of old wells around Great Bend and scattered from there on west and southwest all the way over to Colorado. I have heard they are starting to ramp up new wells in that area in the last 9 months.

Its "FRAC"ing and there is no such thing as horizontal hydraulic fracturing
Formation fracturing is the same whether its vertical or horizontal.

Shell is stock piling a lot of rock around 50,000 ton in Anthony, KS so far and a lot of locations being built around Anthony and Harper, KS. Most of the rock is coming out of Oklahoma. They just opened another quarry down here to supply the oil field demand.

I went to a frac meeting in ny state . They mentioned that there is over a thousand pages of regulations from the epa and dec.It is thought that over 400 more pages will be added before drilling will be allowed. There was a man called in on the local radio station. He sells welding equiptment.Said business is night and day the difference between northern PA and southern NY,
