Hi, I've posted here a few times before. That was way back when when I was a lowly loader for a giant brown company trying to move up through the ranks. When I found out full time work was only a mere 10 years or more away, I realized that brown is brown for a reason.
I went to an amazingly great trucking school thats practically in my back yard. I even passed all 3 parts (pretrip, skills and road) 1-2-3. I got my tanker and doubles/triples and was going to get my hazmat but i got a job at a local company out of gary.
That job sucked so much it turned me off to driving. the motto of hurry up to wait around rang so true, it still buzzes in my ears. Plus all of the out right lies.
Now as I sit here though, flat broke and with minimal experience in my log book, i decided to give big orange another shot. I applied to them when i was a student. I should have gone with them in retrospect but man home every night, local loads, small company enticed me so much.
So here i am, I was so excited to get the intermodal position at orange that when i was walking out of the building, i couldn't stop smiling. i felt like such a dork but don't tell anyone else about that.
Does anyone have any experience working modal? They said i am guaranteed 700 dollars a week but "You'll be making a lot more than that." Can anyone else confirm that just for that warm fuzzy feeling? I trust Schneider as a company as its very rare to see a driver badmouth the pumpkin patch, but as Reagan always said, "Trust, but verify"
Also thanks to all the members and mods who make this website so great, it really helps a greenhorn like me.
edit: I forgot to brag about something. Schneider made me take a 100 question assement where both answers were right but i had to pick the more right answer. I got a 5 star front inpact saftey rated almost perfect if not perfect score on it. I just had to remind myself, I am a professional driver, not just a truck driver.
New intermodal driver

I was hoping to see some replies here so here's a bump for this thread.
I'm moving to intermodal from dedicated in a few weeks myself, staying with Schneider but doing a transfer.
I don't really know much about intermodal except I'll be in a daycab and home everyday.
Working from Portland,OR in this case, can't wait!

Been on Schneider Intermodal since late 2007. I have never made less than 44k a year. Last year I made just over 50k and this year I am on track to make 57-60K. There is consistant work and when there is a slow day or a delay with the trains you are spending time at home instead of laying over at a truckstop or in a parking lot. Intermodal is a fast paced line of work and can be very rewarding.

Are you still in the process of transfering over to Intermodal?? They are looking to hire 3 slip seat drivers at this time out of Portland, OR.

Doubtful on the Oregon if he is out of Chicago. Just saying

I was referring to "Y2K's" post about getting on Intermodal out of Portland, OR.

Put in an application for Schneider Intermodal out of Chicago. Anyone have any input on them? Just did the 100 question test. Couldn't even tell you how I did. Will find out tomorrow I guess.
