BTW, probably too late for Tank, but I'll mention it for others who may come across this in the future, and be left to a similar fate, Unless it's a hard-appointment time, the computer just spits out when It thinks you'll be there, if you find yourself having to to a stupid sleep schedule to do it, you should call your FM, or weekend Dispatch, and let them know what time you'd like to be there, and see if it's plausible. No one wants you out of your normal sleep schedule if you don't have to be.

Thanks Moriarti, but I got there tonight somehow. It was 606 practical miles. I left this morning and the next thing I know I am in Gary. I didn't plan it that way, but 608 actual (non routed) miles later here I am. Funny how going out of route I am actually closer to the practical miles I am getting paid for???
Ok, so now the question for the day. How strong are the bumpers on the new Internationals? Not very strong would be the answer and that's a good answer. Last night I bounced a deer of my bumper in New York. I would have swore I ran the little ####### over, but no carcass no blood. Sheriff's deputy and state patrol said I was lucky. We didn't see any damage to the truck. Of course this morning in sunlight I could actually see damage. Cracked paint under the clear coat and the bumper was a little loose on the side I hit the deer. When I got to Gary, one of the mechanics looked at it. We fixed the latch that keeps the bumper on and then I saw one of the cross beams was bent. For as hard as I hit the deer to bend that cross beam its amazing that the bumper doesn't even have a scratch.
The one thing I will say to anyone who hasn't hit a deer before.... Talk about adrenaline going thru the roof! So far through the roof that I got maybe 4 hours of sleep last night. Even more impressive when you figure I loaded and drove 10th hours after that. So now its time to go passout from sheer exhaustion.

You'll get used to it. Last deer I hit, I slowed a bit, knocked him out of the way, and cruised to the next exit before stopping to make sure it didn't damage anything important. I went on to the shop and had the mechanic check it the next morning. It was fine. Of course the safety lady freaked out for not calling her right away and joining her in wild panic over the phone, or whatever. She put me on probation for "6 months starting from June 15th of that year to June 15th of the following year."

You probably had it coming :biggrin_25520:

How dear your hit a deer, and care enough to call.

Oh and was that a "double secret" probation?

I didn't stick around long enough to find out. :biggrin_25522: They told me they wanted to make the company more like a school. I told them to open a school then.

first deer I hit was in Michigan...I smoked him with the front corner of the trailer...no damage..didn't even see him til it was about to hit...(he came from the drivers side)...Had some hair stuck to the trailer though...I think the rain washed what blood there was off...but man did it make a racket...
Why the hell would they put someone on probation for bambi committing suicide...everyone should know the best way to deal with a deer is to keep going straight...otherwise you will cause a bigger accident if you try to dodge them...

It was the not reporting it to her, the one person who knew nothing about trucks and could offer no assistance whatsoever. Everyone else knew about it.

What is it with the deer in Michigan? I had one run out full speed and bounce off my fuel tank one night.
