New company truck I am in is a 07 Freightshaker. I want to get the cb hooked up but there is no power/ground terminals on dash or in the cb area on the overhead. There is a coax cable for the antenna but thats it. There are also two "plugs" that I think are female that ive never scene before. so i dont know.
I dont know if I want to run through the cig lighter. but I may have to. Would the fuse box be a good option?
There is no dash mount area either. So I will have to mount it in the cubby on the overhead storage. Or maybe I should make a slipseat box. It is a road tractor running local dedicated.
Appreciate it drivers,
Big Moe

in the cb area above your head to the right if you sitting in the driver seat you need to look in that area the wires may be taped off or the last driver used a quick disconnect if you cant find it get with a CB shop or your mechanics they will find it you just have to know what your looking for. dont run to cig lighter its a easier fix than you know.
Big Moe Thanks this. -
Yeah, I wanted to stay away from the cig lighter route. Ive never had this problem before and usually most trucks ive driven had those screw down studs. I didnt recgonize the plugs. Ill take a better look. We dont have mechanics on site so Ill have to be on my own. unless i stop by a cb shop. there is one on my route.
i was fuse box maybe a way to go. I dont think I want to connect it to the battery.
thanks for the idea driver.

what kind of radio is it and are you gonna use a kicker with it
-
Ah its just a little ole 29 ltd classic that has been peek'd and tune'd. nothing big. no kicker either. im not at that level yet dont ya know..

Take a test light up to the cubby hole, and turn the key on, and check for a hot wire in one of those plugs. If you can find one, take a standard Cobra 2 or 3 plug fused harness, and hook it up with the 3M connectors. That will leave the original harness intact, and make a neat install. You can use the factory coax if it is still there. I used 2- 4 ft. fiberglass antennas on the factory mirror mounts, and a co phase coax from Radio Shack with good results, and sometimes a single 5 1/2 ft. Francis on the drivers side, with the factory coax. Either antenna set up was satisfactory. Make sure you secure the radio in the cubby hole by using the bungee strap or you can take a radio mounting bracket and a threaded rod and bolt it in to the roof brace. It is already threaded, if you look closely.

id bet it is one of those female plugs u found.
-
what is a 3m connector??
-
It should be in the center overhead. It's just a two pin connector type plug. For best results, run wire to the battery or a hot lug (un-switched, running direct from the battery) in the fuse box area if you can locate one there.

When I had my Columbia, I didn't use the Freightliner supplied Coax. Get yourself 18ft of coax and a good antenna, Wilson 2000 always works well for me. Hook the coax to the antenna and to the radio, whatever you have leftover, coil it up in a foot-long coil and leave it sit in the passenger-side overhead space......that's 1/2 the battle right there.
