Not a trucker yet, Im hoping to attend CDL school in Jan 2012. Im a 24yr USAF veteran looking for a new career. Been kicking around getting my CDL for the last year. Working at Wallyworld for 14 months convinced me that there has got to be something better out there. Im fully trained in the industrial technician career field but those jobs are few these days. Kids are grown up, wife is used to me being away-(7 deployments).
I joined this forum to find out all I can about the in and outs of trucking. In other words I dont want to go in blind. I think my training on diesel engine overhaul, air, fuel and hydraulic systems will give me some advantage in this profession. Nice to know how and why things work. Love to travel and have been dormant for 3 yrs now. Ready for the road again.
I think a sleeper cab would be a step up from a tent.

A tent in the Airforce, we know yall were in the HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS at every location and us Navy folks slept in ships and the Army/Marines and special forces are the true campers. Anyway get your permit while you wait and if you have a chance to talk to the drivers in the walmart parking lot just ask them some basics of driving dont ask the about backing up a truck the drivers that sleep at walmarts are the ones to afraid to find the last parking spot at the truck stop cause they cant back up.

Yes I did stay in some awsome hotels in europe. But Turkey and the bum of the world (saudi) were all about tent city. Yes i have talked to some of the drivers for wallyworld, mixed bag of nuts there. Some were cool, some were downright scary, i.e, was in the trailer and felt the hook up, did manage to tell the driver to let us finish unloading the truck before he took the trailer. Thought you had to know how to back up to drive a truck? Now thats funny, dont care what ya say!
