Based on what ironpony said even tho he wasn't sure about the fuel tank size (90 gals.) on the lightweights, how far would you be able to go with a full tank and a full tank on the reefer with say 48k on the trailer?

 

It's gonna be dependent on the load, and the terrain. But figure at 7mpg, 90 gallons will get you 630 miles down the road. That being said...if you run that tank THAT close to empty someone should get in your face for being an idiot.

Also, company side, it's not uncommon to not take on full fuel tanks if the load is going to be heavy. Especially if you are grabbing beer. They specifically tell you to roll up on 1/2 tanks.

 

Guilty of being an idiot, i have almost ran out a couple or 3 times when i was hauling reefer, but then i had 2 tanks on the truck i drove, just wanted to get as far as i can without stopping too much. You can cuss me out now.

 

I don't think i will need to do the full 630 per day to do what i need to get the money i am looking for, unless i don't get the miles i need before cutoff to pay week.

 

If you go company, you fuel when they tell you to fuel. The exception being if you run into "unforeseen" circumstances and need fuel sooner rather than later. Their money, they can tell you where to spend it. Use it to stretch your legs and your back and your arms. Get that blood moving. Wash your windshield, check your lights, put eyeballs to tires and mudflaps. It's not a full PTI, but keeping an eye on stuff and catching it small can prevent a bigger problem later.

 

Yes definitely check tires!!! Was doin my pre trip on a preloaded trailer n found a flat tire. If I had driven off probably would've fallen off. Took 8 hours to get someone to fix it... The loves was 16 miles down the road, but I wasn't moving from that spot til the tire was fixed

 

Just a question, but why wouldn't you just go on down to the Love's, would've saved time and a road call fee.

It's illegal to run with a flat. Bills say the load weighs over 46,000. I'm not getting a ticket for anything. Doesn't matter whether it was a super single or not, still illegal. And as before, not sure the tire would've stayed on the rim for that long. My FM said stay put, so I did. Prime paid to have the tire fixed, not me.
