I bought a used Cobra 29 LTD Classic('92 Phillipines made w/side mic) off of someone for $50.00 bucks.I hooked it to a Wilson 5000 antenna using some RG-8 coax that I purchased from sparky's cb shack.the radio works fine but now I would like to get a little more range from it.Adding an amp is not an option so I've decided on an RFX-75 modification(along with a proper P&T,alignment,& a receive kit).Should I drop the coin on adding these modifications to my existing radio, or just purchase one with said modifications already on them.Sparky's has a Cobra 29 black chrome for about $170.00 plus shipping(with aforementioned modifications),& Custom CB Radios sells one as well(a little bit more expensive though).I like my current radio a lot but don't want to sink money into it if it's cheaper to just buy another radio. As it stands I'm in for $50.00 on the radio,$60.00 for the antenna,$18.00 for the coax,& $16.00 for the antenna tune & a stud.I also don't know who to use for the work I need done.I'm trying to decide between Sparky's CB Shack or Custom CB Radios.Any & all input is appreciated especially since I'm a newbie when it comes to CB's(never actually had any interest in them 'till now,it has saved my neck at least 3 times just recently).

FYI the Mexican Power aint gonna work so well here...I'd change it....
American-Trucker Thanks this. -
Try wrapping some bailing wire around it and see if that helps...

I figured it would rattle some folks...just dropping it for the sake of getting along...comments & suggestions are still very welcome...that goes to all the folks that didn't mind me posting about being proud of my heritage.

For 170$ I would think more along the lines of the General Lee ! Same money and much better radio ! Every thing else will work with what ever radio you get . But hold on to the fillipa radio , was the best cobra ever made . ( they sold the orl design to unidion when they moved the plant , and they made inproviments) . Best of luck ! and merry christmas and a happy new year !

i have an 89 model Phillipines made Cobra 29

If that old cobra still works great and is in good condition then I would not touch it. Get another radio and keep the old cobra for a backup. Personally I would get an amp but that is me. If you can't get an amp then I am thinking export radio. A good export will do everything a RFX 29 will do and then some and it will last a bit longer since it is not being pushed as hard as that 29.

I agree with the others. Buy a General Lee HP and be done with it. RFX-75 with the 29 will shorten its life to 1-2 years max., imho.

How do your figure? The RFX-75 is attached to the back of the radio not inside...Any heat build-up would be on the outside of the case and not inside...Magnum has even started putting the RFX-75 on radios stock right from the factory now...The Omegaforce S-45 comes stock from the factory with one on the back...

Why?.....He's "Loud and Proud" right?
I recall a young man who had the same *ahem* motivation....
